There are two petitions on the White House site to save WWV & WWVH they need 100,000 signatures by 15, Sept .
The "savings" would not even be a fraction of the rounding error on the NIST budget. OTOH, the equipment is really old and needs replacement. Time and frequency for .gov equipment these days is via GPS time code and a GPS disciplined freq source. The biggest loss if WWV/H went away would be the SKYSPOT network WWV transmits at a very high power on multiple HF frequencies ensuring coverage of North America 7 x 24. I would note the most current information offering on WWV by the NIST is dated 2009. What does it say when the owner doesn't see any need to update their Public Information for almost two decades?
