1. Given the media intensity given to the Covid 19 (otherwise known as Corona or Wuhan) virus, there seems no reason to have posts on that very specific subject in several forums Accordingly, all of those posts will be moved to "Headlines". All new items on that subject should be posted there as well. This notice will expire on 1 April, or be extended if needed. Thanks, folks.

Oh, I don't know about that...it's amazing we have red oak trees at all! For them to germinate naturally, it requires 1000hrs at @40°, on Thier side, half in half out of the ground. (Very few that fit this requirement escape the squirrels) even nurseries which cut the crown off like open skull surgery , and added nutrients, only get @%70 germination under controlled circumstances. (This is a timing mechanism that ensures the trees germinate in the springtime.)
White oaks, on the other hand, germinate just about after they hit the ground and stop bouncing. (In the fall).
I have hand started and pot grown red oaks for planting on my hunting property and currently have about 30 in the ground in tomato cages and chicken wire for the best chance against deer and squirrels until they are large enough to stand a fighting chance. Both will eat young trees as they smell like acorns.
