One NOTE, here: When designing and building Rain Collection Gutters in areas with Significant Winter Snowfall.. One should hang the gutters so that they are MOSTLY under the roof edge with just enough sticking out to collect the water as it runs off the roof... This is very important because if the Snow slides off the roof, and the gutter is nailed to the end of. the joists, the snow will rip the gutter right of the joists... You figure that out, REAL. QUICK, after you have to replace them each spring.... Experience teaches a LOT...

Dirt floor buildings have critter problems depending on the area. Michigan had raccoons and ground hogs. .22 is the best solution for raccoons. Ground hogs are a different problem. They are determined diggers. Dad didn't want to shoot them, so for 30 years he would battle them by standing lumber and scrap metal up in their holes and piling rocks against them. They'd try to dig under it and the wood would slip deeper and deeper into their holes. It became quite a game.

I think it started as a battle when the barn was new, but as the years passed it was more of a game. Generations of grumpy old ground hogs trying to get into the barn, against one devious and patient old man. :)
