Blackpowder will mess stuff up.
A 45cal blackpowder pistol with 30gr of powder spitting out a patched ball at 450fps will certainly keel.

If that were me I would be testing miniballs in the 50.

 

I have hunted elk with a .54 Caliber T/C Hawken. There are some good projectiles out there now but you have search for them. Forget about hunting with patched round balls. I figured I had enough energy with the projectiles I got from Quebec that I could make a clean kill on an elk out to about 110 yards or so. Last time out I had a cow tag and just kept running into bulls.
