Made some canteen hangers today for @HK_User ... specifically for his Guyot bottles...

I know you've all probably seen this before and I know you can go out and buy a fishing thingy that would do the same... and my other buddy actually did and bought me one too.... but I sorta don't like not knowing what kind of metal it is ... or that it was painted... who knows what's in the paint...

Especially since I want to store it in the bottle .... and may have water in there... either way... I don't want mystery metal or paint in what may be a boiling and cooking pot... ;)

So I make my own... and that's a good thing... ;)

18/10 Stainless Steel trolling leader.... same stuff the Guyot bottle is made off....

    Simple to do...

specs in case anyone wants to make their own too.... will fit perfectly in the Guyot bottle

Cut a piece 21 inches long... mark at 10.5 inches and bend the circle to make it springy...

At the ends... mark at 5/8ths and bend to make the hooks to hold the canteen...

Voila... takes all of maybe 5 minutes if you include filing the ends where you cut it so it isn't sharp and sanding the sharpie marks off

Holds solid and yeah you can use it as tongs or other uses around the camp...

Hope this helps or inspires someone who's looking for an easy project...

    Have a great long weekend...

    Take Care and God Bless,

@Bear, that is sweet!! I hear you though about the metal. If you made it shorter, it would tuck under the drinking part and not slip out while you are chugging. Hey, that would work for the titanium canteen too, I think. The mouth not as wide as a Guyot though. Think it will fit?

    Simple, effective.

@Bear, where did you get the leader? Any fishing store?

And would love to hear your ideas on something to suspend a canteen cup. Been trying to come up with a way to do so WITHOUT drilling and so the lid can be used suspended.

I await thoughts from your mighty brain.

I would think, a larger version of the same thing would work for a round cup in the circle spring. Squeezing the legs would grip the cup.

Was thinking something like that. The prong would face in for the cup. I guess how it holds would be contingent on the lip as well as the weight. In this case, have more weight would probably more secure.

If you could show the cup, that might help.

@Hanzo I debated making it shorter but then went with longer for two reasons... easier to fish it out without getting your grimey hands in your nice clean water... and the extra length for hanging or grabbing out of the fire if you blade your bottle in or near it...

Yup... next one is for the Ti canteen and the cup ;)

I figured that's why you made it long. Most of the time, I carry my titanium canteen or Guyot. So a must handy tutorial.

@Hanzo any fishing store that has trolling leader... gotta check the size... too thin and it won't be strong enough....

Working on the canteen cup idea right now... would love to do this in titanium... but will start with stainless first.... ;)

Ha! you mean this tinny little pea sized fermented old grey matter in this fat furry head?????

I don't think stainless or titanium would matter for something so small. Except for price.

@kellory... now there's an idea from a brilliant mind! seriously though... next time you all are in or near are fishing store... check out the gear... lots of ideas... I picked up a bunch of the trolling leader... because I like stainless... it's stiff... springy (hold the off color jokes @Hanzo ) and has a million and one uses ... not to mention making needles and other tools....

    Another great idea @Bear

I picked up a few aluminum water bottles a few years ago so that they could be put over a fire to boil water if need be. I'm gonna hafta look into making a few of these.

@Hanzo just took a look at the ti cup... easy peazy because it has a rolled lip... or at least mine does... I'll make something up tomorrow and post some pics... you get the first one... for... one meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllliiiiiiiiiiiioooooooooooonnnnnnnn doooooolllllllaaaaarrrrsssss ;)
    I work cheap for sweets....

The normal US GI cup is a bit more of a challenge but I also have a solution for that... I'll whip that sucker up tomorrow too and post a pic...

    How's that?????

Yup @kckndrgn easy enough to do in a couple minutes... solves a lot of problems... but it's not my original idea... I saw it on Dave Cantebury's youtube channel... just decided to make my own ... my way... ;)

I am pretty sure it is my turn. But I always fawn and gush over your stuff. Wait, that didn't sound right. But you know what I mean.

And hey, I am secure enough in my masculinity to use a pink knife. [emoji33]
