Interested to no if anyone has modified there rear sight on an sks ? I picked one up last week and really don't like the dovetail (blocks out target at longer ranges) just wondering how a ghost ring would work in place of the rear dovetail or would it be better to find away to mount one farther back.

KNS Precision makes one that replaces the rear sight. It's a high quality piece, but I didn't care for it. Tech Sights makes a nice M16'ish rear sight that mounts on the back of the top cover.

I will give them a look thanks for the info. What was the problem you found with the KNS ? was it just not your style or was it a performance problem

Willimas makes onre too, I have used bothe the rear receiver sight and the williams.

Both work better than the stock item. Different levels of install work.

Didn't mean to bump anyone just that is is bed time for me.

The KNS sights are beautifully made, and may be ideal for some shooters. I found the crosshairs obstructed my view of tiny targets, and the elevation adjustment could only be made in 1/2 turn increments.

Unless your are trying for fresh Mouse Meat!

SKS is better than a AK for accuracy but 1/2 " is a bit of a wish event.

Thanks for the info all. I will have to trial them to see, My concern with the rear mounted on the cover is over time things get looser and may not hold a zero well but I will have to try one to no for sure, I would prefer to mount in same spot as the dovetail. This sks is 2 1/2 -3" @ 100 sand bagged wich is good or good as I would hope for in a 100 yard battle riffle, Off hand rapid fire 10" @100. I only got one for a JIC and don't expect and, hope it would not be needed but with a drum (pinned of cource ) it would do plenty well for suppressive fire/ fire for effect until I have a 308 out. also my daughters can rattle off rounds all day without braking the bank.

1/2 turn, or revolution, of the front sight is the minimum adjustment that will bring the crosshair sight back in line with the bore.

YMMV. Absolutely. I'm very pleased with cast bullet reloads in steel case (Berdan primed) 7.62x39.
