So here we are lounging around in a cheap Motel Room, in Baker City Oregon, because some dufus decided to drive a load of Green Hay to somewhere east of Baker City on I -84.... Of course it caught FIRE, and since there isn’t ANY Fire Service along that stretch of Freeway for 50 miles, The State Patrol closed the east bound portion of the Freeway, in order to put the fire out, and stopped ALL east bound Traffic from LaGrand to Onterio Oregon... You can’t find a room anywhere in between, now, and every Truck Stop is plugged to the gills with stranded 18 Wheelers... Just another day in Paradice....
Worked for a farmer in Pennsylvania as a teen. Seem to remember something about him shipping his freshly cut hay to a local drying facility - so that it wouldn't catch on fire and burn his barn down where he stored it. I can seem to remember that from 50 years ago, but can't seem to remember what I just did with my damn coffee cup.
Not to discount your delay. But, I was once in a truck stop in Albany, NY, the Albany Truck Stop, as I recall. I remember it was by a river. Anyway, my dispatcher was late getting back to me - had forgotten I was waiting for a load, me thinks. Anyway, I kept reminded him it was starting to snow and that he should probably turn me south. (He was trying to get me a load out of Albany, apparently.) Anyway, he waited too late. I was stuck - stuck for a few days, in snow too deep for me to leave. When I got back to my terminal, he knew I wasn't a happy camper. Dispatched me on sweet loads for weeks afterward.
I let it dry on the ground before I roll it. If I have to roll it up damp I just put it in the field for the cows to eat.
You probably shouldn't leave the safety of Alaska. Last time you left AK, that was a trip full of snafus also. Hopefully you get back on the road soon.
@BTPost - That'll teach you for leaving AK for the flat lands... At least you can get chicken fried bacon at the Sumpter Inn (the one with the train inside) while you wait for the road to open.
Last time I picked up a bale of green hay it had a snake hanging out the bottom. Never helped bale hay again!
LOL my neighbor cuts it one afternoon, wind rows it right after cutting and bales the next morning............. Then wonders why every few years his neatly lined rows of round bales burn. Won't listen to anyone and always blames it on kids setting them on fire.
I only bale it up green if rain is coming. I don't even cut it unless the forecast shows 4 days with less than 20% rain.
