I've been much more "compliant" the last couple of weeks and today I realized/noticed something. The reason I was eating "additional stuff", whether it be Primal snacks or craving something grain-based (as virtually all snack food seems to be grain-based) was due to boredom. I have cans/bags/jars of primal snacks in my drawer at work but I noticed I seemed to be racing through them. The last two days, however, I've been really busy and today I'm on the phone during lunch. I had a big primal breakfast and a handful of Almonds a couple of hours later and right now...I'm not hungry at all. For me (and I'm down almost 4 lbs over the last two weeks but not adding to the total lost until it's more consistent/permanent), it's something to do with my mouth which, is one of the reasons that breaking the smoking habit can be so hard. The addiction is one thing, the habit of having something in your mouth is a totally separate issue and one of the reasons so many people fail when they try to quit. I've considered gum but it's frightening and a little disheartening how many types of gum include "wheat flour" in the ingredients. That, coupled with either sugar or worse, artificial sweeteners, is making me shy away from it. Any other suggestions? I'm thinking possibly carrots and/or celery as they are very low cal/carb (net carb). Again, it's not that I'm actually hungry, it's that I need to have something to do with my mouth and talking, apparently, fills that void (although the folks on the con-call might prefer the celery).
I rotate my "snacks" at the office with: an apple, orange, almonds, and beef jerky when I feel the need for something throughout the work day. I really try to limit how much I have each day of those snacks, maybe a handful of almonds and an orange. Today I had two tangerines.... Yesterday it was an apple.

As long as I have an iced tea on hand *with a straw* I don't snack. Minute that dries up, I start rummaging around for snackies. If there's no straw, it doesn't work for me.

Congrads on the weight loss. I myself eat once a day, sometimes twice, if I remember to eat at all. I often go a few days with no food in take at all and have to remind myself to eat. This said I can't offer much in the way of advice on this except to say that I'm sure there are many gums out there without wheat flour in them? Maybe Asian gums would be rice flour based? Also there are drops, sprays and inhalants which suppress the appetite and it's urges. It sounds as if you've programmed yourself to eat, much like a pet who is fed at a certain time, and that being distracted helped temporarily break that pattern. Hope this helps
I am a straw person also. I find I consume more water via a straw then if I have a straight cup or a bottle.
My nutritionist told me to avoid bananas because the are so genetically modified that they do more damage then good. She says they were so alter from the original banana that they don't even look the same.
Ya I suppose they are, but its the only thing I consume thats sweet,or remotely bad for me. I don't smoke, chew, or drink coffee.I drink water and an occasional tequila on the rocks. my only vices. I don't eat anything sweet other than bananas. But I have heard that before.
Wow @Quigley_Sharps your are almost a saint. Only occasional tequila and bananas as vices!!! Speechless..............
Yea havent always been this way, never ate much sweets before primal. My 2 vices i had before primal that was shitty for me was sugar free redbull and a bowl of ice cream once a week.I would typically have one small can of sugar free redbull in the morning because i can't stand coffee and thought i needed a pick me up. Never smoked and gave up chewing 1999.
Before I started the Primal journey I will have to say that I was a heathen. I loved peanut butter cups, ice cream, and dark beer.... What have I changed since the conversion almost two months ago..... I skip the candy and the ice cream.... but then I get to eat a lot more bacon so it is a good offset!!!!
Bacon and Dark Beer, 85%... Water works for me, or push-ups. amazing how a set of push-ups cures both boredom and munchies!
I have been feeling a lot of cravings lately and just working through them. However, I did give in and eat an entire 85% chocolate bar yesterday after lunch. I don't think I'll be doing that again very soon...
While I love dark chocolate (currently I hit the 72% Ghiradelli...can't quite go 86% yet)...a whole bar?
PopCorn in a Pot, (Not the Microwave Crap) or Hard Boiled Eggs are my Junk Food when I am bored.... Few Calories, and the Eggs are pure Protein....
