I am considering applying for a SOT and designing and building a few things. Need info about what is involved and how to proceed. I don't want to sell NFA things, just design, improve, and tinker with them in hopes of building a better mouse trap. If these is a book out there along the lines of "Building legal Machineguns for Idiots" I'm missing it. What's the real skinny on this?
Fisrt you need to have an regular plain Jane FFL (07) i think Then a SOT THen a class II manufactures The BATFE want's to see a brick and mortar storefront with Posted hours before granting you the FFL. This is what has kept me from going this route. Magnus will have more
Yeah the 07 FFL is the way to go, class 2 manufacture gives you the ablilty to build firearms, the Class 3 gives you the ability to build and tinker with MG's. I don't think a class 2 can do that. Cost of probably on the order of $2-4k per year in liciensing. For more info, I would probalby call RedJacket Firearms in Baton Rouge and talk to Will. Umm, my local Sot and manufacture pays $500 a year for the SOT and the normal $150 for 3 yrs on the other liscenses. T $3000 a yr gets you Destructive devices. I also believe that the Class II is the MG/NFA stuff, I don't think there is actually a Liscense called Class III But I Build Houses....
I am pretty sure to build MG's you have to be a Class 3 manufacture. Now being an 07 FFL gives you the option to do everything from DD's to other NFA items.
