Tea lights as an alternative heating source to charcoal / Sterno / methylated spirits. It may take somewhat longer to get the steamboat steaming, but it's a plausible option.
This brings back memories from my childhood. Now I'm going to try to acquire one. The soup always stayed blazing hot.
