Ric of the Clan Hansen was at a real crossroad in his life. As a youth, times had been difficult owing to his odd appearance. Once his father revealed the Gene Mappers had tagged him as an Omo, what looked like might have been a hard future in Haven, became impossible. As an Odd Man Out, the younger women in the village would not give him a second look. He had no desire to take up with any of the Cougars, no matter how many approached. No, he wanted a family of his own and the joy that would bring. As an Omo, that was not possible… Oscar, his Grandfather of many years, made him an offer that he simply could not refuse. Now it was his to to journey into the unknown, there to discover the 'black rock' or coal, which the Council desired. This could also mean he might find someone to share his life with…. This future held many things, perhaps even his death, but this was a better thing that to live joyless in Haven. Spoiler alert, his odd appearance is bright red hair and freckles.
