There had been a survival fiction story which I think was called "Retirement" that I was following a few months ago. The author was a firemen or crash/fire/rescue guy IIRC. Story was about a guy who retired from the service, bought a piece of land, hired some Amish neighbors help build a shed, which became his house. He was raising pigs, goats and chickens. He fell in love with a neighbor lady, and had moved his daughter in with him just about the time the economy collapsed. There was a drug running biker gang, a crooked sheriff, shootings, State Police friends, and lots of action...then I lost track of the story. Does this ring any bells with anybody? Anybody know where the story might be posted now? Any help is greatly appreciated. All my other favorite on-line stories I have found here, or elsewhere. This is the one that got away. Thanks again. Hot Diggity you are correct about the name of the story, but I forgot who wrote it. I have a copy, so PM me and I can get it to you.
It was (or is) written by a guy named Firedawg. He was in the middle of it when he got shipped out to the 'Stan IIRC. Don't recall it being finished, at least not on Frugals before the fiction board was deleted.
Thanks Grand, I knew there was a fireman connection somewhere. Maybe he cross-posted it somewhere. (wishful thinking) Took me awhile to find Second Chance too, and you'd finished it by the time I did. Well done, Sir. Well done. HD
Still can't get the story out of my head, and it was so well written that I began to feel like I had walked the ground around the homestead. Anybody have any word on FireDawg? Link to the story? HD
Thanks for the update Grand. Funny, I was just thinking about this the other day while shelving some books. (Yes, real books made of paper, ink and leather.) I will keep my eyes open and hopefully we'll all see FireDawg back posting chapters soon. Heck, maybe he'll publish a completed novel. HD
