Hello CraftyMofo! The gun laws in Brazil are terrible. It's almost impossible for a regular civilian to own a firearm. There's a lot of paperwork, interviews with the federal police, a requirement to be associated with a shooting club, and passing psychological and shooting range tests. It's a nightmare. In the meantime, it's easier to obtain guns from the black market, but most regular civilians are not involved in that. As a result, only those with a lot of money can buy a gun and remain within the bounds of the law. When I came here, I was fortunate to be able to keep all of my guns due to my military status. It's crazy. I was really surprised by the self-defense laws too. For example, if someone enters your property and you shoot them in the back, you will go to jail. If the trespasser isn't carrying a weapon, you will go to jail. Another thing I learned is that if you shoot someone in self-defense, make sure to use up all your ammunition (shoot all around), or you could be charged because you shot the intruder with the "intention to kill". This also shocked me. It's the complete opposite of the US.
Hello Mysterymet, I'm sure you will find the right place! There will be a lot of earth, metal, and rock covering the entire area. Finding good land is an important part of the process. It took me about four months to find the place I have now. Wishing you the best of luck and let's keep in touch. Best regards,
