Lotta people have a bug out bag, mines more of a vest i guess. I do have a bag but the vest and an ar are the first things im grabbing. Vest has 6 mag pouches, all with 30 round mags, pistol holster, 2 pistol mag pouches (need to buy more pistol mags!) Loops for shotgun ammo, few other random pouches have a light in one. Lots of webbing for whatever you need. Anyone else run a similar setup?
I have a plate carrier vest with my grab-it gear. Bladder on the back, first aid pouch, holster with a dual mag pouch, triple AR mag pouch, radio carrier, and a Glock knife. 2 utility pouches with misc stuff like a lighter, Swiss army knife, aspirin, etc round it out. I use a tiered system with the vest as the first layer, backpack with vacuumed sealed clothes, food, more first aid, shelter half, and other things. 3rd tier is a canvas gear bag with other crap that is nice to have but not the end of the world without it. My gear is "Get Home" instead of "Bug-Out", and lives in my vehicle. I also have another kit that is way less that I keep in a desk drawer at work.
you got to play it by ear - last thing you want is to get labeled in the neighborhood or the area as some nutcaze - don't want to break OPSEC - don't get into play with some cop that is already freaking out ..... want not want to bring out the heavy artillery - plain old 12g like everyone's else 2nd cousin is toting around - be more Grey Man until the time not to be ......
a go vest or coat is a great idea. the ambulance corp gave us overalls with lots of pockets. i never had to run and get scisors,tape,4x4,stethascope, bp cuff, ect. slip into the coveralls and its all right there.
You do realize that it does not exist unless you post a photo of it, right? I do think this is an excellent idea and one that I should have implemented long ago. I always wear an old jean jacket that I cut the sleeves out of because of its numerous internal and external pockets. So, with it and my normal attire of cargo pants (I got a great deal on them from Popper's for $30 each!) I got plenty of pockets for tools, flashlight, sock hat, phone, whatever but a dedicated vest with mag pockets and a few items would be great. I am not sure why I haven't done this... Thanks for pointing this out! And, we'll be looking for that photo! Thanks! EDIT: Is the vest store bought (what brand), self-made? What brand and model? Frankly, I think this is a good discussion to have...just because Trump won and a few things are going our way does not mean things are 'safe and sound.' In fact, giving as insane these Leftist Commie scumbags are acting, it is quite the opposite, Furthermore, I would not be surprised to see things get really hot especially if they lose the mid-terms badly.
Yup! Plates and carrier first, H harness with large pockets stuffed with gear, then vest with basic pouches, all are the AR double set up, for 12 30 round mags, plus a couple loose 20 round mags loaded with ether tracer or other specialist ammo. The pistols are in their own belts, with 6 16 round mags for the semi, and 4 speed loaders for the big revolver, plus the B.U.G. with 3 spare 12 round mags. On top of that, each battle rifle has a bandolier specific to it, so as I grab that rifle, the bandolier follows, for the FAL, that's 10 20 round mags, plus a extra punch of loose rounds, ether AP. Or tracer, or hollow points. The 03 Springer ( any or any of the same caliber rifles I might grab) is 8 pouches of ammo, each pouch holds 20;rounds on stripper clips, as all rifles fees from the same clips, plus my usual loose ammo of the same types as the others. Once all that is ready to go, I have two large back packs, in always close at hand, it followed me in what ever rig I'm driving, the other is for road trips or flying and is more specific to long term Buggin! I also carry my Medical bag, which in practice serves as a big butt bag when I'm having to hoof it and have everything else including the back pack and rifles!
Its an online purchase, amazon jobber. I will get a picture up tomorow. I need to get a good blade on it somewhere and a touriquet. I think ingave around 40 or so bucks for it. Seems ok, only grioe is the pistol holster. Kinda janky but may come up with something else later.
Rothco #55893. Level 3 SAPI plates, cuz I know you gonna ask that next. This is not my first choice as a get home kit. If I grab this kit it means we are at war. I would much rather grab my desk kit to make my way home because of a Hurricane/Tornado/Flood has made the roads impassable. I would rather not engage while in transit (or at all if possible) because the odds are against you, but if I grab the "big kit" I'm at least gonna leave my mark. Make no mistake either. If you strap on all that battle rattle, you will make yourself a target. Civvies and a small schoolboy backpack with just the essentials will get you much farther. Better to do your fighting from a fortified and supported position.
Plate carrier with level 3+ AR600 plates which I do cardio in at the Y. All Mollie pouches can be added quickly. What I have with the plate carrier is a drop leg pouch that holds three 30 rd mags. What I want is a flat vest that does not make me feel like a turtle when I am in the prone position and need to roll. If things do get very serious, I have a set of green SAPI plates that can be installed.
As I stated in my last post, the top mag and mag carrier are simply left off of the main plate carrier due to wearing it at the Y for my cardio work out. Nobody has even batted an eye or ask me about wearing it. It takes all but 10 minutes to put together a full battle rattle kit if it is called for.
