So I'm taking my general sometime between 10 and 1. Don't think I'm going to be quite up for sitting Extra by the end of the month but that's the goal.
Congratulations (in advance ). IMO, General Class opens the doors to the world. Extra Class? My Elmer was a Ham who enjoyed being an Elmer. After I earned my ticket I was perfectly content DX'ing the world on CW with General class privileges. One day at work, Bill commented he put 17 people on the air and not one Extra. I learned (except for legal questions) the tests weren't difficult and as CW Op neither was the code.
I passed! I'm /AG until the FCC database updates in a week or do. I also went ahead and took the Extra exam but, um, didn't do so hot. I didn't fail miserably but 50% isn't gonna cut it. I'm still hoping to get it done before the end of the month but we'll have to see. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Yeah, the wife asked "So, you want a new rig instead of a handgun for your birthday?" Tempting...but no. I've been holding out for a CC weapon for a couple of years so that comes first (and it's coming out of the budget ). I'm saving up for (hopefully) a 6-160 mobile/base rig. 73 - KK4BGQ
Thanks everybody and fedor, the kicks are mutual. I've felt so many recently from so many corners that I hesitate every time I think about sitting down.
Mike, You'll do fine. I spent a lot of time on either QRZ or my iPad App taking tests and once I was consistently passing I knew I'd be ok. If you do take practice tests I suggest you randomize the answers because every test I've taken has been that way. Good luck.
Thanks. I do the E-ham practice exams every day and score at least 32 each time now. I've got the new Gordon West AE book already as his books have worked best for me, as far as study technique. I will get the ARRL book as well for more in-depth knowledge. This sure beats playing Farmville! Mike
