Tasty animals.

The meat of any animal depends on what it's diet has been .
Bear that feed on roots and berries is more pleasing then bear that feed on fish.
Rattlesnake that feed on insects taste different rom those that feed on mice .
Ground squirrel I had the other day had a nutty flavor I really loved ,almost want to raise them for the meat.
The thing abut me and food Is I don't like covering it up, I like to taste the meat for what it really is.
Typically as humans we prefer animals fed on grains .
Omnivorous creatures scan still have a preference or limited to the buffet at hand . Squirrels have been known to eat eggs even chicks . Just as ther are better times of the year to hunt due to the pelt, the drought can play a big part of the animals diet as well.

 

They are probably ALL on a menu somewhere in China.

 

Most things will taste ok fried up.

 

Shark fin in shark fin soup is delicious. Shark meat tastes not very good.

 

I would imagine that shark that feed primarily on mammals are likely to taste different than shark that feed primarily on fish.

 

In the Philippines, they used dynamite and overfished until they have to go way out to sea before they can find fish. Not much thinking about their kids being able to catch fish on down the line. I am not a fan of giant factory-style ships fishing either. Common sense is needed.

 

IIRC ground squirrel can be very dangerous to eat... even properly cooked...

they are known disease carriers... and known parasite carriers...

tree squirrels are consider much safer by most...?

Just thought I'd mention that...

 

They are carriers of bubonic plague. Should avoid handling them in any way. If you really need too, rubber gloves are in order.

 

Here in northern az, I keep reading reports on the plague. Prarie dogs and squirrels and about everything seems's to have it.
A friend in Phoenix trapped pests for a living and told me every fox he live-trapped had rabies. Yep, You gotta be careful.

 

Sharks eat anything.

 

Bear, okish, not sure the one I had was a good exzample as it was early in the season befor it had time to properly fatten up.
Beaver (get your mind outta the gutter, I mean the water rat) nasty, but we know that was a water trapped animal and tasted it rancid.
Frog legs, yum
Moose oh yeah!
Venison, get that all the time.
Springbock, pretty good.
Rabbit, nice enough but I find usally to lean.
Hare, was a lil better and had more of a wild game taste
Aligator, really tasty if cooked right, tough if not
Grouse, pheasant, quail, partridge, pigeon, all good
Duck, delish.
Malard, a bit gamyer & tougher than duck but still pretty good
Bison, yum, more please
Buffalo. OK, but not as good as bison or beef.
Wagu beef. VERY good
Aberdeen angus, well duh. Very good
Highland cattle, very good but a bit gameyer and not as tender as the above 2
Lamb, nice.
Goat, ok, bit tough.
Elk, really good.
Kangaroo, meh, ok, to lean.
Rose veal, nice but I preffer the stronger taste of beef.
Boar, very good as long as you get a good one, otherwards the taste can be a bit..uh...
Raindeer. Really good,
Ostrich, Meh, ok,
Goose, very good.
Turkey, much better if you get the freerange bronze turkeys and not the tasteless mass produced ones from the freezer isle.
Mutton... gah, nasty
Mangalitza pork, really good

Then theres all the usual chicken, beef, bacon etc &
