I'll start this off with a story with a moral. A few years ago, a company called me in to deal with a system security issue. At the time, everyone was on dial-up and no one had firewalls. They suspected that a former employee was still accessing one of their computers at night using PCAnywhere. It cost them $600 (included 5 hrs round trip travel time) for me to suggest they simply unplug their modem when not in use - A multiplex connector on the desktop for that particular computer would make it easy. I also changed the permissives so they felt they were getting something for their money. Moral of the story: The most simple solution is sometimes the best.
