I drove by my old home on my way to visit a neighbor and saw that the new owners had a sign in the front window. The driveway was empty so I pulled in and read the sign.
    2good lord.

We always had a Beware of the Dog sign but these signs that broadcast there is a gun in the home are not a deterrent in my opinion. Any good thief can figure out schedules and know if they want to acquire a weapon, this may be the place to break into. We had had issues with people wandering into our yard but I do not think posting a sign like the one above would have stopped folks. For some reason that sign in the window of a home just doesn’t sit well.

Anyone have signs like this posted in their front windows? And when you see signs like this, what are your thoughts?

Your conclusion is only valid for folks that do not spend a lot of time in their homes... I had a Sign in my window, of my homes, when we lived in the FlatLands, that said “If you can read, this Sign, You are in Range of my FireArms...” AlaskaChick was a Stay at Home Mom, and had plenty of firepower to choose from, if needed... as did the childeren... They were trained from the time they were 4 years old how to safely handle Firearms, and AlaskaChick didn’t start Nursing School until our youngest was in Fourth Grade, and the oldest was in High School...

I always preferred these 2 signs.

Tom's Nudist Park - No clothes permitted beyond this gate! Strip or leave!
    and the following one,
    .
Warning Free Range Rattle Snake Farm. Enter only by invitation and owner escort. Trespassers have been warned and trespass at their own risk knowing fatal bites are possible.

I think I favor a sign that simply says, “Smile for the cameras.”

"these signs that broadcast there is a gun in the home are not a deterrent in my opinion."

I agree with you. I do not think they stop an individual that truly wants to get into your home because they are watching. I mean, everyone here has gun(s) so any criminal knows in advance that there is probably better than 90% chance there are guns in the house and/or the individuals of said home are armed so a sign does nothing in that regard.

However, I do wonder in the horrid event one had to use their firearm to deter an intruder if such a sign might work in their favor for it is stating "I AM ARMED! I WILL SHOOT YOU IF YOU TRY TO HARM ME OR MY FAMILY" so you are giving full warning in advance. What I am saying is in a court of law and if you have to shoot someone there is a very good chance you will be in courtroom and I feel a sign couldn't hurt. I currently don't have any signs, not even "No Trespassing" signs which I need to get put up but I live in a whole different environment than most.

The "rules" vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. As always, it pays to know whether you can stand your ground or must retreat. One might think that a warning would be helpful if it came to that, but still --

I always liked, but never used, "Trespassers will the shot. Survivors will be prosecuted." And, to my mind, signs of that type don't help you stay "gray." Could be that ADT would be better, especially in urban and suburban environments.

Dammit, you're right! Never thought of it...but just think if that sign was in a state where you are suppose to retreat! Hells bells, I can hear the prosecutor painting you as a gun slinging vigilante. I will now shut up and sit in the corner and color...

Hope this is readable. Tired of people ringing the doorbell when Ed is on nightshift and sleeping days. I got fed up and made this when we lived at our last house. It got a lot of laughs. Luckily, we are in the boonies now.

I think I need one of these. We have had two packages stolen from our doorstep in the last month. No more deliveries to the house. Maybe I should get some attack chickens like @Mountain mama

Alarm systems and cameras are a deterrent as most criminals looking to burglarize will seek out softer targets.

How about a sign on the back side of your entrance doors, that reads; "too late to smile, we already have your picture. too late to run, the silent alarm activated the auto dialer, law enforcement with dogs, myself and several of my neighbors are closing in on the house as you read this. You will only die tired. You might as well just drop your weapons and sit down and wait for the responders to take you into custody"
    .

BTW, I have had serious attack roosters in the past, up to 5 of them at one time. That is no joke, and it caused a killing and plucking party, before freezing them. At about 6 to 8 months old they were pretty tender and tasty, when eaten, as chicken and dumplings.

In some places, a sign saying that you will shoot, will get you into a heap of trouble with the law in case you ever do have to defend yourself. You may be legally right in your defense, but the sign will put you in prison because it paints you as someone that really wanted to shoot the perp. My philosophy is don't advertise anything, no signs, no racking a shotgun, no nothing until you ask them politely (or not) to cease their transgressions.
