I've never let myself become addicted to anything, easier for some than others for sure.

My wife on the other hand cannot function without Coffee. She's totally on board with all of the other preparedness activities (I'm blessed) but I haven't been able to get that monkey off her back, so to speak.

Learn to grow coffee beans......Adventures in Self-Sufficiency: Growing Our Own Coffee! in some climates you may need to grow them under glass, indoors, or create a microclimate that is conducive to coffee. Put your wife in charge of the coffee bean project....it is after all for her benefit. Growing coffee beans may also be a good trade goods option...catering for the dependency needs of other coffee addicts. ;)

Internet/electronic addiction is a serious issue. The younger generation will feel the impact more. Some say that electronic addiction is much like a gambling addiction but an addiction is an addiction.

    1. Internet Addiction Statistics 2012 [Infographic]
They say one in 8 Americans are addicted to the internet.
    • About 7.5 percent of children over the age of 12 are considered to be addicted to the Internet in the United States.

If you have a teenager then you know they are moody, now imagine having to deal with a teen going through E-tox during collapse. The symptoms of drug withdrawal are much the same as the symptoms of electronic withdrawal.

If my faraday preservation survives, I have over 2000 movies and several players and monitors ,
Post SHTF being able to sell entertainment, a diversion from the grim reality at hand, can be a valuable asset.

Internet withdraws sound like a sudden loss of friendship due to death, which I guess it basically is.

@arleigh-I don't want to see kevin costner and the sound of music if I ever make it up that way post-SHTF!

No, but it might be a source of something to laugh at ,
seeing how poorly we speculated, what things might have been like.

Thought I was addicted to coffee but have found that I get by on Green Tea just fine, love my Jack Daniels but quit drinking altogether a few months ago and I miss it but it isn't something I bother about. I smoked a few good cigars over the past week or so and can feel myself with-drawing from the nicotine, but no big deal. Smoking dope makes my lungs hurt, but a firecracker is another story. I went on a six month coke binge years ago, sold my business, house, cars, everything and blew it all on one last big party, unfortunately, I decided to stick it out, after the money was all gone, never missed the coke but sometimes, I still dream about one or two of the coke-whores that I couldn't seem to get rid of. I guess I learned more about human nature from coke than anything else I've ever been around. Guess every cloud has a silver lining.

I'll let you know about the internet addiction next week while I'm in the Ozarks for a music festival in an area with no cell coverage or wifi. Not that big a deal to me except for satisfying my curiosity.

Here in Michigan Marijuana is legal for medicinal use. Once you get a card you can keep 12 plants or hire a care giver(grower) to keep 12 plants for you. My wife has chronic pain from Fybromyalgia , also rsd due to a bad surgery. She had the run with Norco and other opiad based pain medications. W e have found that Hemp oil applied topically does wonders . We are getting her set up with a card so she can grow her own and make her own ointments.

@Kingfish Just be aware, that ATF will get a Record of that CARD, and it will make her an Ineligible Purchaser for FireArms.... when the BackGround Check is done thru NICS... ATF/NICS is getting very "sticky" about this, these days.... There was a case on Point, this morning that a Woman in Washington state , bought a couple of HandGuns, a Rifle, and a ShotGun, and was convicted of "Aiding and Abetting" her Son, a Felon, (Marijuana Possession) of possessing a FireArm, in Federal District Court. There was Testimony that He helped her Pick out the Weapons at Purchase, and was Instrumental in having One, replaced under Warrantee... He Had Outstanding Warrants, and when the local Sheriff, came to arrest his butt, he was out-Back, shooting, and ran into the House, when he saw them, precipitating a Stand-Off. She came Home, but couldn't talk him out, so the SWAT Team went in, and Blew him into the Next Century, when he fired on them... There was NO Evidence, presented, that pointed to her giving Him Permission, or Acknowledging that he had Her Permission. to handle, or Possess, his Mothers Weapons. It is Felony Perjury, to lie on the ATF Form 4473, about Marijuana Use, and they do prosecute those, on occasion....

I do not require government permission to own a firearm or to smoke or consume any plant that I choose. I am so tired of this BS Oligarchy laying down rules for us common peons. Screw them and their laws, if they injure nobody or cost/damage anyone else.

I understand the lines drawn here. Federal government still sees cannabis as a tier 1 drug like Heroin. WRONGFULLY YES. It should have been legal years ago. The good parts of the plant far outweigh any bad elements. My worry is my being in the house with her medicine. I wont allow her to have any until she gets her card. then I wont touch it or even move it . She will have to handle it herself. She already has all the gun she needs so she wont be buying any new ones. They are all chached anyway so not in the same place as the medicine will be. State law says she can not have a gun in her possession while carrying her medicine. Not even in the same car. She can also if need be sign her guns over to me. She can not get a CPL if she has a card. Can not carry open if under the influence. Can not hunt while under the influence. Can not have a firearm in her possession while under the influence. She is not going to be smoking it any way. Her need is chronic back and leg pain and is going to use an ointment made from canabis oil cbd that has low thc content. W e have done a lot research on the law.
For us getting her completely off the Opiads is the most important thing. Norco kills. Cannibis oil does not.

Also by law the state does not have to or is in any way responsible to give these card holders over to the Federal Government.

    Michigan - MPP

That link shows a lot of the different laws that are passing one after another creating more and more safe guards for patients using medical cannabis. The 3% TAX PAYS FOR THE Programs . Testing and regulations. Making it legal for shops called dispensaries to sell oils and ointments is now being signed by the governor. Once this is final possession of oils and ointments will be legal for anyone with a card.

Also we had enough votes to get decrimminalization on the ballot in 2016 but the courts threw out 200,000 signatures for being too old. Bad petition work. You have 180 days.

:5s: Excellent post. @Kingfish please let your wife know she will be in my thoughts and prayers. Getting off the opiats is very hard. She is making the correct choice, CBD has a record of healing. CDB is what people prepping should be studying because it will be something you will want to know how to make and what uses there is for it.

This exactly why we are pursuing it. Pain medication we can grow. And not as dangerous as Opium based meds. Im hoping we get it together before some nut case starts the next revolution or world war.

I thought the cbd oil from hemp was more curative than yhe oil from pot.

@Mindgrinder do you want to weigh in here about difference cbd oils and uses?

I smoke (legally) for bpd and sleep....for this to work for me, it's high grade hash made from indica strains. While i've eaten hash, weed and oil it's not ideally suited for what i'm using it for. Now if I was in a situation as described for purely pain relief and to move away from opiate....hmmm...

I'd grow Northern Lights strain and use the silk bag and ice method to convert it to hash...if you're bound and determined to make oil - make sure you get the 99.9% iso alcohol and be EXTREMELY careful when setting up the double boiler. Also with oil, if you're going to eat it straight up, roll it in flour - it's hard on your guts.

Although it's not what @Kingfish wants to hear....while CBD is fine and dandy - the THC is absolutely necessary and he'll need to come to terms with her actually getting high for it to work. Part of pain relief is distraction...same with getting off of narco-scripts.

For Michigan outdoor....grow Northern Lights or Kush.

Actually hemp and pot are the same plant...one is just bred for a high THC content and the other is not. Many strains of pot are high in CBDs but also include a significant amount of THC...which means that they get someone "high" while also being effective against pain.
