OK, I have never had or used one of these and don't know really anything about them. Dose it just give you 3 points there to mount accessories and can you still use standard rings with them to mount a scope? What are any down sides to these systems and what are the perks?
As a general statement, yes, you are correct, but need to know, are you talking a receiver mount, barrel mount, or the Cheaper than Dirt scope mount! Give us an idea on what and where?
I figure I will most likely set up the AK for a scope as my eyes are not as good as they once were and acheaving real accuracy with iron sites for me now is next to impossible. The one I was kind of looking at is from cheaper than dirt and (IIRC) mounts to the reciever. Since it dosnt cost much more I was considering the tri-rail one so that when I could I may put on a tactical light or laser for low light shooting like when coyotes and such are up around the house. Other than that its just basicly that if there are few to now draw backs to them it would make sense to just go that way so if I decided to add anything later on I could but I dont know what if any the down sides are.
I would need to see a pic, but DON'T buy the top cover tri-rail system....it is cute, but dont' work worth a crap. The top cover on an AK jumps around too much and that will through your Zero off.
Heres the link to the one I was looking at. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ctd/...gid=&mscssid=SX251V44W15A9JLUDP2PB6NN114VBH80 I wouldnt be opposed to others as long as the price is comperable. Also I didnt think to ask, is this one already set up to accept a scope? I figure if the tri rails are problematic I can still use the accessories that mount in other ways but just wanted to get some more info on them at least.
THose are bad juju...I have one in my junk box. An Ace Ltd mount is better it actually replaces the rear sight leafe and you can install AR-15 A2 sights.
Ahhh, ok. I think I will try to avoid anything though that makes it so I have to remove the sites. I like to have the irons set then add a scope, that way if the scope has a problem I can remove it and then use the irons if needed.
This will replace the iron rear site, and still be usable. I posted pics in the thread about AK optics.
For an AK I went with the Kobra Red Dot http://www.freedomoptics.com/Comersus/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=160
