The missus said she needed to learn to tie some knots, and I felt I could learn a few more. This thread is a place to post your videos, opinions, stories about various knots.

I use a taught line for roping in tents and tying square hay bales back up if I only need part of a bale for the goats.

Best video on useful camp knots. Nothing too fancy, just common solutions for everybody.

All knots are combinations of bites(bends) and loops. Make a loop with a bite going through it and try to pull the loose end through the loop and you have the ever faithful Bowline. Square is simply two bites looped together. Break them down to their simplest forms and knots become easier to use/tie. Once you master the Bowline you can go on to one on a bite for a superb rescue knot. Gives you two holes for your legs that will not slip either way. Throw a half on the chest and you can haul out an unconscious person dependably.

This thread needs more input. While you are waiting, see the Bluejacket's Manual thread for more knots than you'll ever need (but if you need 'em, they are there) from the nearly useless to ones you will use every day.

Boy Scout handbook might still have something on knots. Sure did when I was scouting before history began.

Some useful, some are more for crafting. See attached file. Will add to the resources section also.

Bump ^^^ Great information and a skill I need to work on. I find at times when I am tying a standard knot I get too much slack.

What standard knot and what are to tying?

I find the truckee hitch to be fantastic for tensioning without the knot binding.
