During this week's UN meetings in New York City the Department of Justice announced the launch of the Strong Cities Initiative which places enrolled city police departments into a UN sponsored global police force against "violent extremism".

The program is voluntary, which is how they start.

As I understand it, the following link the takes you to the UN resolution that supports the SCN initiative. United Nations Official Document Reading through several pages of motherhood statements and self congratulatory waffle....it says nothing about establishing a permanent trans national UN police force directly under the control of the UN, and commanded independently of the constituent members of the UN. Police for UN peace keeping operations will continue to be cobbled together on an ad hoc basis, for operations mandated by the UN. Given that the US has a power of veto in the UN Security Council, it seems unlikely that blue beret, blue shirted cops will be billy clubbing US citizens any time soon.

Conservative critics of the Strong Cities proposal by New York Mayor Bill de Blasio to cooperate with the UN as part of SCN anti "violent extremism" initiative, have strong allies:

Republicans should feel reassured that the ACLU, and Muslim citizens of the USA are watching out for your six; They don't want the evil UN global police force billy clubbing freedom loving 'merikan citizens any more than you do.

Probably not...at least not immediately anyways....folks isolated in the boondocks would be a low priority...cities and towns first...then villages and hamlets...and finally rogue hold-outs in the sticks.

    )
Having read the article, referenced in the Yahoo News link.....It would seem that the figure of 40,000 personnel for UN mandated peace keeping operations...(all 16 of them...none of which are within the sovereign territory of the USA) are Pledges from nations other than the USA. The USA currently has, according to the article,
. To put it in perspective, the world (other than the USA) have pledged just under an army corps of personnel (mainly troops, but also police and civilians), and the USA's worldwide contribution at present (and which is unlikely to change any time soon); is the equivalent of an infantry rifle company (minus one platoon).

Australia presently has 25 ADF personnel and 10 Police Officers serving in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS)
UNMISS Facts and Figures - United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan

The nearest peace keeping operation that the UN has to continental USA is Haiti, MINUSTAH Facts and Figures - United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti

It should be noted the PRC has pledged some 8,000 of the 40,000 troops promised for service in UN peace keeping operations ready reaction force. (the approximate equivalent to two infantry brigades worth of troops). So, does the USA's commitment of an understrength infantry company (equivalent) indicate that the USA isn't seriously supporting the UN's global peace keeping efforts??? No....not in the least. The USA underwrites some 28% of the UN's global peace keeping budget, which pays for a goodly number of canon fodder pledged by second and third world UN member states. It is the UN version of the US Civil War practice of sending a substitute to campaign, or commuting a draft call-up with money, instead of answering the call to arms oneself. @KAS, .... You have to understand, I live so far out in the Alaskan Bush, the Logistics alone wouldn't be worth the effort to send a Force all the way out here to "Get" Me , or my neighbors. There are no Roads that go here. The only way IN, or OUT is by Boat or small Plane, and we would see or hear them coming for hours... Let those Yahoos in NYC deal with the Blue Helmets, as they will, None of them will be showing up at my digs....

And you are also not a problem, either. You can do nothing to help your fellow citizens in the event of invasion or insurrection. This makes you quite permanently irrelevant --a non-talking piece. In such a position as your own, it does make me wonder what the purpose is for a repeated dialogue announcing your defensive strategy, which solely rests comfortably on mother nature for comfort. The fact remains, you cannot directly influence the world, so the statement concerning your safety only becomes a bragging right and offers nothing in terms of a solution except to invite others to seek protection in the Alaska wilderness --something most simply do not prefer.

True enough Brokor, but being out this far, and having World Wide Comms capabilities, gives me the capability to keep others informed, about any situation that might develop, without pointing to my location... That in and of itself, contributes...

There are a lot of posts that pull up numbers of UN troops and say that they would be inadequate to take over this country.

The UN can pull troops from any NATO country as well as from the many contractors in their employ.

Force multipliers such as drones, access and area denial, and robotics will be deployed.

Another miscalculation is thinking that the theater of operations would be restricted to the ground.

The same tactics employed overseas will be used here.

If you do not have air power you will be screwed.

@chellovek if you haven't already, take a peek at the DoJ announcement. Resolutions establishing the thing don't necessarily give the details of how it is implemented.

The think tank overseeing the policy and programs for it is European picked by the UN. Do people really want the United Nations - the group that tried to cover up the raping of children by it's "peacekeeping" forces - setting policies for American police departments?

Once in a while the ACLU does get something right, they have been critical of police abuses of power and surveillance. As for Al Jazeera, don't discount that as being a planted article to get people to disregard the dangers of this program.
