I have a question regarding water purification. Soooo..... you're out camping, been there a week and you need to replenish your water. You're right by a lake. By utilizing a water filter and probably boiling the water, will this be safe to drink or should anything else be done first? Help.... I'm getting thirsty.

Strain it to the best of your ability. Then boil. Then filter. The reason is that boiling will bring a lot of scum to the surface that can be dipped off that you won't have to put on your filter. Secondly, it will kill the bacteria in the water so you don't end up with a biology culture living on your primary screens. Once it has been boiled and filtered, pour it back and forth between two clean cans so that it gets aerated, or else it will taste flat and nasty.
