Std disclaimer - didn't see this already posted. There is an active site HealthMap | Global Health, Local Knowledge That posts reports of outbreaks covering one or more of 516 different diseases. Sources include news report, Gov't (All) reports and private reports. It is the one source *that I have found* that gives you an opportunity to view current trends and possible outbreaks. If you travel, sep outside of the CONUS, this is a good site to begin your trip planning. It also has a fair amount of reporting from within the CONUS. The site allows you to screen for or eliminate areas of interest - for example, you can set the map to display only Hoof and Mouth disease. The source for each report is listed. With this information in hand, you can do further research. Hope board members find this of use.
I'm friends with the guys who put that technology together. They are some very brilliant gents...mostly Harvard alumni or Boston Univ. The producers of the movie Contagion sought them out to do some of the visualizations. If you have an hour to spare: HealthMap: Digital Disease Detection - YouTube
