What Rattles Your Cage?

The recent discussion about how we handle our differing opinions made me curious. What rattles your cage? What makes your heart beat fast, shakes you from your ennui, is the source of disagreement between you and your spouse or partner, children, parents, best friends? What do you do when you feel that way - how do you respond? Do you hold a grudge or do you let the disagreement fade into agreeing to disagree? What is important enough for you to fight for, to put yourself on the line and go toe to toe, nose to nose?

I'm just asking the questions because I'm truly curious, not looking for a debate.

I will do whatever it takes for...

    Children. Their safety and well-being.

Nothing brings out the "momma bear" in me more.

I will debate, argue and site references, instances and examples. I will research, stand before committees and enact policies on their behalf. I am relentless in searching for solutions and will do what needs to be done to find them.

I love a good debate and do my best to participate in a polite and calm manner. I will meet the needs of the discussion with volume changes as necessary. I think that all debates are a learning experience and that, if your opinion differs from mine, you must have a basis for your point. I enjoy listening to different perspectives. I'm insatiably curious and am always look for opportunities to learn something new.

I don't have the mindset for grudges. Ill will begets enemies and I have no enemies.

    I don't have enemies either. OSB:D

There is so much that gets me to the boiling point that I have to isolate myself from the situations that make me upset, though if I run across someone who 'acts' with their idiotic ideas while near me then I am not one to forgive and forget. I'm a peaceable type of guy till it reaches critical mass, then we have a winner who gets a big surprise. ;)

NOthing gets my goat like someone that asks a question of me, then won't let me answer, just interrupts with more questions or tells me I'm wrong without waiting to find out if I am or not. Spins me up right quick, that does.

Since I threw the question out, I guess I should add my .02.

I'm a fairly even tempered person who refuses to get into shouting matches. Sometimes I will confront the person offending me but just as often I tend to simply ignore those who's personalities put knots in my stomach. What's that saying, "Stupidity isn't a disease - there is no cure."

The list of those who offend me is pretty lengthly (may be the reason I've lived alone for most of my life). I am intolerant of those who complain without offering any suggestions for improvement and lacking any intention to even think about a solution. I detest personalities who refuse to take responsibility for their mistakes - it's always someone's else's fault. A simple "I'm sorry - it's my fault" is the basis of self-respect and ultimately, the respect of others as well. I am dumbfounded when a person is so self-absorbed that they actually believe their experience or opinion is the only one with merit. Able bodied people who park in handicapped spaces - that one gets a confrontation every time. I cannot abide those who climb over the back of other for no reason other than personal gain. Sexism. The list could goes on but you get the point.

    What's worth a fight?
    1. Any harm, whether physical, emotional, actual or implied, toward someone I love, my family, will result in a wrath without boundaries or rules.

    2. Disrespect for those who put their lives on the line every day so that I can live the life of my choosing

    3. Cruelty

    4. I will fight in defense of my country and the rights and priviledges it affords me and those who will come after me.

    5. And I'll fight for my honor and integrity - it's the only thing I have that is truly mine

I am extremely protective of my children, and my friends.......Very much so.

One of my closest friends in the world, is...well , a bit eccentric. She's an artist, musician, poet, surfer.....and all around wonderful person.
A lot of people don't "get" her....and I have had to defend her on more than one occasion...She has a heart of gold and saved my life, literally, 15 yrs ago.......Really. I almost died.

Because she is hurt so easily,(and has been many times in life) she has this regal bearing that almost says "stay away"....and an artists soul......

I had lunch with her the other day...and was at the convenience store telling Jennifer I had lunch with this person..she started the eye rolling and muttering under her breath....This time..I behaved...;)

I just very firmly said "Please do not say anything negative about _____....She is one of my favorite people in the world and is a very important person in my life"...

What I wanted to do...was jump across the counter, and strangle this self righteous girl with her pigtails....[angel] but I didn't...

    Aren't y'all proud of me?? :)

Seriously...My children...their rights...and my friends. I am passionate about them....and will do what it takes to protect them , their rights; and them.
I have gone toe to toe with the School Board on more than one occasion... I fought the transportation system the schools use ......and got my daughter taken to her after school care while I worked and raised her , alone....
One teacher had her teaching priveleges taken away for a year after striking a friends child in the face, the first day of school and saying "I heard about you...and there will be none of that monkey business in my classroom"...She slammed the childs head in to the desk and bloodied his nose...a 5th grader.
The mother didn't know what to do...so I helped...I believed that what that teacher did was wrong.

I guess I have earned the nickname "Little Mother to the World" that people call me......

Sometimes I wonder if any of it is really my business...but then again..To Thine Own Self Be True...and try to do the next right thing...That's what I try to do. The next right thing.

"What rattles your cage? - What makes your heart beat fast, shakes you from your ennui, is the source of disagreement between you and your spouse or partner, children, parents, best friends?" - Lack of Respect, Integrity, Honor and Loyalty.

"What do you do when you feel that way - how do you respond?" - Watch, Listen, Opine if appropriate, Remember, Check the "mirror", Make adjustments and move on.

"Do you hold a grudge or do you let the disagreement fade into agreeing to disagree?" - Yup... agree to disagree as appropriate... but I'm not perfect.... working on it....

"What is important enough for you to fight for, to put yourself on the line and go toe to toe, nose to nose?" - Standards I set for "the guy in the mirror", Taking care of Family, Friends, commitment to those "Mirror Standards" and obligations that I have voluntarily taken on to complete and/or uphold...

"I'm just asking the questions because I'm truly curious, not looking for a debate." - There's my 2 cent response... Thanks, not looking for a debate either... :0)<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Well I would have to say that if it is directed at me personaly then short of an imediate physical threat/attack, and that can go either way since if I know I may have been/seemed to be out of line that may be tolerated to a point but a weapon of any kind directed at me even for intimidation is likely to result in one or the other dead, there is very little that will get me to fight other than possibly stealing from me. Attempt to wrong me or rule me and I will most likely simply walk away and ignore them while watching them as a potential threat and also ignore the authority they THINK they have to controle me. As to impuneing my honor/integrety I typicaly will simply consider if it hasany basis or may apear to then move on confident that I am true to my own laws and those around me see this and know me for what I am and as such slander is of little true consequence.

What WILL get me in a fight is any attack against those under my protection. Attack my family or friend or any guest in my home and you better have VERY good cause and show restraint. I may not stop even families own stupidity from bighting them in the butt, if they start it and cant finish it they can take some lumps before I will step up but if they are attacked it will have to go over me because it wont happen as long as I stand. Bullies also anoy me and thugs. While I am mellow and hard to anger in most ways I am simply not wired to be ABLE to stand by while thugs attack others around me, while thieves steal from honest folks and so on.

Now as far as simply ticking me off and being held in low regard by me I would say liars, thieves, disloyalty to those deserving of loyalty, arogance, and stupidity or determined ignorance would be theshort list. Basicly while its hard to get me realy confrontational I also tend to have high standards for actualy likeling and or respecting people while trying to treat all with basic respect anyway.

I don't think anything makes me a more dangerous person to be around than when I see somebody physically abusing someone that is unable to defend themselves. i.e. a man beating up a woman, or worse yet a parent abusing a child.

Righthand you bring up some very important points.

Woe is he who brings harm to my home or my loved ones. I will fight to the death to protect them.
