Here’s what your e-mail address says about your computer skills:
Own domain (e.g., @joesmith.com): You’re skilled and capable.

@gmail.com:When the Internet stops working, you actually try rebooting the router before calling a family member for help.

@hotmail.com:You still think that Myspace is hip.

@yahoo.com:You send e-mail chain letters saying that Bill Gates will eat your hard drive unless you forward this message to everyone you know.

    @aol.com: You phone friends to tell them about a neat website, then say into the receiver, “OK, go to … h … t … t … p … colon … slash … w … w … w … dot …”

Being in an RV with an extended family, most of which are liberals and continue to ask why it is necessary for you to carry a gun.

ROFL@ the AOL reference. So true!

Hacker shortcuts. Type name of domain without extension or prefix.

    SHIFT+ENTER = .net address
    CTRL+ENTER = .com address

I finally convinced my mother that it was a good idea for her to learn to text. Her first message to me? “Whereisthespacebar?”

lol. My wife types www.facebook.com into Google and then clicks through to fb. She just doesn't get that she can type it into the address bar directly. Or these days, just faceb would get her there.

tabs? to her they are strange things that open and don't go away... I close about 29 tabs whenever I perform maintenance on her system.

Momma puts EVERYTHING, on her Desktop.... and about once a month I have to go in and reorganize her computer and put things into folders to clear off enough space so she can continue to operate her 17" iMac. She also has a 30" Mac Secondary display that gives here more Desktop space. When I have to clean things up, it is because there is no more desktop space to put things.... I have tried to explain this issue, but hey, it is easier to just clean it up myself.... and Keep the Peace.....

When my mother got her first PC-based word processor before she retired, she could not understand why I couldn't run her work on my home Atari computer - 'different platforms' meant nothing to her. I tried the old "Chevy vs. Ford" comparison, but she's not a car person either.....
Later Dad, at seventy-SME years old, gets his first computer. I had to get it hooked up and everything set, then begin teaching him to use it. He and Mom could not fathom the difference between their Windows screen, their browser and E-mail.
Every month or so, it bogged down, and I'd have to come over to their home and remove the viruses, and erase the cookies for all the online porn-sites the old man was visiting - kept warning him...... SHEESH...... Now I know what parents of preteens go through. :D
Luckily he finally got tired of it and gave the whole thing to my BIL.

I've probably shown mine how to save things where she wants them 50 or 60 times...everything still gets saved to the default locations (or where she saved something on the one time she remembered after the last time I showed her) and then I have to track her stuff down and put it in correct folders...

What if you have a work email account, Yahoo, Gmail and an AOL account? Just for the record- my AOL account is really old but a lot of past friends have that one and not the newer email accounts. Allows me to partition groups of associates without everything sitting on one site merged together.
