What's your favorite wild edibles (gathered, not hunted)

    Participation time...

    Guess I'll start. First, some that I do not have current photos of. Mango, lychee, longan, sea asparagus, bananas and coconuts. There's so many that I like!

    Here's a few that I do have current pictures of.

    Lilikoi


    Strawberry guava (in season now). I just ate some fresh off the trail. So sweet! That's what prompted this.



    Mountain apple (season just finished)


    Guava


    Avocado

    Common Name - Lilly Pilly Syzygium smithii - Wikipedia

    Grows wild in the bush (Aboriginal bush tucker), and is also grown as a standard tree or hedged in urban areas. The fruit is slightly tart and astringent. Very refreshing raw. The fruit can also be made into a jam / conserve. Each fruit has a small pit that should be removed when eating or making jam.

    Probably of no practical interest to my fellow North American monkeys.

    Out here it's blackberries (everywhere you don't clear them and keep them cleared), tiny wild strawberries, Oregon grape, wild apple and pear trees, chanterelles, and hazel nuts. I really should have learned about the less obvious things.

    Muscadines are alright, but I ain't filling up on them. Not a whole lot grows in here that I would eat.

    Muscadine and Scuppernong grapes, my Dad has several sets of vines in the back yard. Though as he passed four years ago and Mom went last year, they are going feral. My health doesn't allow me to keep them up.

    I figured so, the way they put on. Been rainy, so this season should be a good yield. I might see how many I can get before my back gives out.
