    Why I Carry a Gun

My old grandpa said to me, "Son, there comes a time in every man's life when he stops bustin' knuckles and starts bustin' caps and usually it's when he becomes too old to take an ass whoopin'."

I don't carry a gun to kill people. I carry a gun to keep from being killed.

I don't carry a gun to scare people. I carry a gun because sometimes
this world can be a scary place.

    I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid. I carry a gun because there
are real threats in the world.

    I don't carry a gun because I'm evil. I carry a gun because I have lived
long enough to see the evil in the world.

I don't carry a gun because I hate the government. I carry a gun because
I understand the limitations of government.

    I don't carry a gun because I'm angry. I carry a gun so that I don't have
to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.

    I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone. I carry a gun because I
want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere
    tomorrow afternoon.

    I don't carry a gun because I'm a cowboy. I carry a gun because, when I die
and go to Heaven, I want to be a cowboy.

I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man. I carry a gun because men
know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.

I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate. I carry a gun because unarmed
and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.

I don't carry a gun because I love it. I carry a gun because I love life and
the people who make it meaningful to me.

"Police Protection" is an oxymoron. Free citizens must
    protect themselves.
Police do not protect you from crime; they usually just investigate the
crime after it happens and then call someone in to clean up the mess.
Personally, I carry a gun because I'm too young to die and too old to take
    an ass whoopin'.
... author unknown (but obviously brilliant)

Remember the average response time to a 911 call is over 4
    minutes.
The average response time of a 357 magnum is 1400 FPS.

When seconds count, the cops are just 4 minutes away.

    Good list.....

I carry a gun because cops are too heavy to carry around everywhere I go..... and it makes them angry when you try.

Yeah, and ever try to find a "holster" to fit a good cop into?
They're as scarce as hens teeth!
Both: the holsters and the good cops!
(what am i sayin'? I used to wear a badge, and now oldest son does!)
    Go figure!

I carry a gun because I am a law abiding, tax paying citizen who refuses to become a victim. Bottom Line.

twice in my life, a pistol has allowed me to keep my possessions and my life (thugs with knives wanting to rob me). and once a pistol has allowed me to stop a violent beating of a woman i didn't even know. all without a shot being fired. I have never shot anyone, but believe i can if i have to. my only lingering thought about it all is..... i let the thugs drop their knives and run..... if i had shot them they would never had tried to ever rob anyone again. i let them live, what did they do after???

I heard it expressed this way once:

The most fundamental right you have is your right to your life. If you don't have the means to defend that right, then you don't have it.

I know this isn't the real or even main reason, but with all the Pit Bull attacks here in Central Texas, it is a very good reason to carry a gun. There even people in our neighborhood that have them, and I go to red alert when I see them, expecially when walking my dog.

In the last year or so there have been four children killed by pit bulls, and even more attacks. Every last owner said: "I don't understand it, (dog's name) has never growled or threatened anyone in his/her life." Same old song I guess.
