A local source has a Government Tactical (5.56mm) 4-14x40mm for $250 slightly used with box and paperwork and a 3rd Generation Government (7.62mm) 4-14x56mm for $400 slightly used with box and paperwork. My research into these says monetarily this is a decent price. Are these good quality scopes for the money or should I reconsider something different? Any reason I shouldn't buy these? It is my understanding Springfield is no longer making scopes. Will they still honor their warranty? Thanks in advance for any input, I know nothing about quality optics.
I don't know much about them except that I have had one on an M1A for the last couple of years. I shoot this rifle a whole bunch and have had no trouble wih the glass. I also remember paying a heck of a lot more than $250.00 for it.
They are fine scopes. The 3rd. Gen. 4-14x56mm is very desirable, with Springfield no longer producing them. I sold one last year to a guy in Texas, who claims to buy every one he can get, saying he resells them to the Secret Service as fast as he gets them. Who knows? I do know he paid me more for the painted scope than I paid for it new. 700 dollars, if I remember correctly. I only sold it because I got a nice US Optics scope instead.
The Tactical 4-14x40mm (5.56mm) for $250 was gone . I'm sure somebody is happy about that, since I just got back from buying the 3rd Generation Government (7.62mm) 4-14x56mm from a private party. This is the first rifle scope that I've purchased that cost more than $100, my other rifle scopes are Simmons Prohunter. Gonna mount it tomorrow on my FAL and hopefully get it to the range this weekend and see if my experience is as good as others, seems some folks weren't too happy with their Springfield scopes from what I've read in researching these. I see an A3 upper replacing the A2 upper on the horizon for the AR-10.
