I'm betting that someone somewhere is trying to answer some very tough questions from some very unhappy people.

Impressive height on that crane.

When I was driving mom and my step-dad to Dallas to the VA on Wed. I saw a truck parked with a wind turbine blade on the trailer. At first I was thinking "what the hell is....." then it hit me.

    Wind Turbine Repairs

When you're dealing with equipment the size of wind turbines, repairs are almost always major undertakings. A critical piece of equipment failed on our turbines , which required us to remove the blades, nacelle (the rectangular box that houses the generator and other components) and ring gear (a large ring at the base of the gear box that helps the turbine blades turn into the wind), install a new ring gear, and put the turbine back together again.

How tall are the cranes? I'm gonna take a guess at 350 feet, unless each section is longer than 50 ft.

Those are pretty good size mobile cranes for not being a tower crane. You guys using Campbell Crane for your picks?

No way would you get me up there. I've worked on many high rises in downtown PDX and have seen how much tower cranes sway in the wind at the top, no thanks.

How do you assemble the blades on site and keep them straight and in balance with one another? Lasers and a big jig...

Or are they shipped in one piece? Can't say I've seen anything that long shipped on trucks before.

Considering the height of the tower and the length of the blades in respect to tower, those blades gotta be almost 150 ft. long.

They are shipped by truck one at a time.
They are shipping from Vancouver ship docks daily now to Eastern Oregon.
they go up as a set or singles depending on the wind.
they have slings and use multiple cranes to do this.
I will get out next week and take some pics when they fly them up.

We have started the Project here within 20 mins of home, no more traveling for me, at least for a while.'
These are of the first five in the line of 62 Wind Turbines,
I will try and post progress of our construction site.
I have been promoted to Supervisor of main crane operations.
I work at least 6 days a week 530am to at least 800pm, so I might not find time some days due to work and paper work afterwards.
    But I will try.

This is the rotor that the iron workers are trying to unload also the three blades that attach to it.
In this particular picture they had the rotor swing out do to too much boom out on the crane and it slid off and came back and hook the semi trailer.
They started to lift it anyway and the trailer came off of the ground.
I stopped the job and then they got the fork lift and picked up the trailer and moved it over.
BTW the guy in the photo is an awesome iron worker named ZZ……
    short for ZZ top…..I don’t know why….LOL
