    I only ever used a froe to split cedar blocks for shakes. Used it with an aluminum/cable handle mallet. Mainly to split 4-6 ft diameter blocks small enough for the shake mill to handle. You can build up strong arms swinging an 8# mallet all day for months.

    In the Forest Service we would take those blocks and split of 1" thick shakes to roof our smaller buildings.
