Hot racking was the PITS. To this day, I can't fall asleep in a bed if the sheets are body temperature. Just a general aversion. Ah another bubble head squid, gotta love the Navy.

 

I have lived for 2 years in a 60 square foot van, dude. if she has one of her own, so can the "old lady". 2 of you in a van makes for domestic trouble, but the van can easily tow a 6x10 trailer and the trailer can be left sit someplace really easily. Let her have 'her space' in the trailer, man. The trailer can easily haul a 450 cc motorcycle and a mountain bike can ride atop the van, too, foffering "off road' and backup transport potential.

 

Don't forget your tactical wheelbarrow.

soon as its finished
wife and i are both over 50, kids 'were' all moved out...lol
i'll have a workshop and smithy to go to
wife will have a wash shack
so we wont be limited to thecabin
plus 2 of the 4 kids live close by

here is my idea of my small 450 ft cabin..the front 20.ft is liveing area with bult in bathroom and large open floor plan for the liveing and sleeping in the area ..the back 24.ft is stowage area for long term supplies

 

I would love to have a shelter, just in case. My dad had a shelter, built circa 1950's on his first property. We (the kids) loved playing in it. Too bad he sold his land and bought a different place 10 years before he passed, I would have loved to inherit that shelter...

 

here is my floor plan for the socalled 450.sqft place..

As you can see it more set up for a single person than a couple or person with childern ..plus i want to say this i stole alot of the ideas for storage space shelf system from other places and people ideas and put them into one unit i want design for the storage area of the place ..

i saw a bunch of diff ways to store items and likes it parts of the ideas and threw out other parts intill i had down in drawing of the idea stowage rack system i want to have in the place..

the layout is as follows as you come into the unit ..

left side hold the kitchen area with bult in eating counter with chair

right side holds the bathroom with it washer and dryer combo and shower with bult in sink unit and toliet

the outside wall of the bathroom has two open slots
1-is for setting down and removeing the shoes and hanging up the coats before going farther into the place..

this are is 24.inchs wide

2-is for hideing the tool section and it hidden behind a brag or picture board set up

with the opening space for the bathroom inbetween them

the side where is kichen is a long L-shaped book case that 24.inchs deep to hold a ton of books in the bc..plus the bookcase runs from the floor to the top of the ceiling to cram as much many books and dvd wallets i could in the area..

the bookcase is 16.ft long then the L shaped part is 7.ft long with it running top to bottom of the wall to hold more books .

with a small 22.inch flat screen color tv with a shelf for the dvd player hanging off the unit ..

in front of the tv is a single really nice single high end chair with foot rest and end table for use in the place ..it hold my drink and remotes for the tv and dvd player

the area around the chair is about 10.ft wide-x-10.ft long from the bed to the book case on one side to the front of the book case to the rear bookcase is open sqaured area for me to live and workout in ..

the right side after the bathroom has a queen sized mattress set up with drawer under the base to hold extras items on the unit

the bed is a tempuc pedic grand mattress set up ..under the bed has a stowage space also to put away things from pying eyes if you get my meaning on that one ..

the bed has a four hight L shaped bookcase with a ledge that is 18."inchs deep to hold items along with under the ledge is open for more storage of items as it need ..i use this space for books ..

next to the bed is a small stand up wall locker with single pull out drawer for use as need to hold clothing ..

the rest of the wall is used as a bookcase to hold more books and dvd wallets..

the stowage areas

the one long wall is design to hold the following items

first and second shelf are design to hold the 5 or 6 gallon long term buckets of food items

third and fourth shelf is design to hold rubbermaid stowage tubs in ind type slots set up like in the picture

the rest of the shelf levels are open shelf set up to hold long term food or other supplies in the case lots

the other side is set up with two 30.inchs wide shelf for stowage of long term supplies and a 30.inch wide walk way that is going to be used also for stowage

the unit after that is a top to bottom shelf system to hold long term food supplies and other items as need in the shelf system

so what do you think of the single person cabin set up ..the unit is 45.ft long -x-14.ft wide-x-11.ft tall

 

It would even better if you could bury it in a hill. I could live in that size area nicely.

I grew up in a small home it was 450 or 500, 2 parents and me.
Its rather tight quarters for 3 people. It was not really energy effecent either,
Better designs now a days.
Life rather ironic , now my folks live with me and my homes less
Than a 1000, its not very enery effecent either. But at least its a bit more
Room. The problem with going small size, you really have to think about
Getting older and needed special equipment in the showers ect.. Having
Room for wheel chair its a necessity.
