Just wondering what 15,000 gallons of petroleum would be worth in gold and precious metals if you were a Mr Big of the post apocalyptic world?

What would you trade for the fuel?

It is being delivered by tanker convoy soon and you have about 5,000 tonnes of gold and silver to barter with. Ancillary trade goods are bullets, slaves and machine-parts.

You have scant reserves of fuel and it is precious. You don't lack for food, but are not trading a surplus either....

The noise of the convoy approaches and your go-between broker is waiting for an answer. As merchant king you aren't going to turn down the deal of a lifetime, but you don't want to give away too much gold. Or do you?

    The options
Nearly all your gold and silver - Very likely to get the fuel, plus a lasting shipment for several years. A very good chance of a permanent trade-treaty.

Three quarters of your gold and silver - Likely to get the job done, chance of a future trade-treaty also.

Half of your gold and silver - Possible to get one of the 7,000 gallon tankers worth of fuel, but not both.

A quarter of your gold and silver - Unlikely to get much, it could well anger the convoy leader!

Slaves and machine parts - Dubious trade for an unlikely agreement. Perhaps it'll soften up the men wanting wives for back home? It could also arose their anger at such offerings. You rub your hands and think more on this...

A hail of lead! - This is risky, the convoy is well guarded with both troops AND tracked vehicles

A mixture of precious metals, slaves and machine-parts - A balanced gesture, likely to get negotiations going, at the expense of a decisive outcome.

My issue would be how to get it here.... What Type and Grade of Fuel...... and if I had room in the Tank Farm to store it.....

I do not waste perfectly good fantasies on such useless garbage, the world that I grew up in ended years ago and what has replaced it is atrocious.

@Tyler Danann - Dude... If I may ask, how exactly did you come up with this question in the first place? Are you asking for advice with a video game or something?

I'm curious as to what folks would trade for fuel when they have a bunch of silver and gold worth trading.

You have water, you have food already, just not enough as a surplus.

"Dude", you might not know it yet, but BTPost knows more about fuels than most folks. He runs a tank farm.

I wont be out on the open road. Propane is the only fuel I'm interested in. I would trade some 4 ounces of silver for a 100 pound cylinder of Propane. An ounce for a grill size tank.

Actually, in Alaska there are only two (2) Grades of Gasoline at the Distributer Level. (80/87 and 100/110) and two (2) Grades of Diesel. (#2 Diesel and JetA50) This is due to the large amount of Aircraft in the State, and a very small Population density. Distributers can only source these four Grades, and they have a lot of different customers to service. Also of NOTE, there is NO Ethanolized Gasoline, ANYWHERE in the Alaska Fuel Distribution System, due to the fact that Distributers must supply Aviation Grade Fuels, from the same tanks, as other Gasoline customers, and the FAA Mandates that there can be NO Ethanol in Aviation Gasoline, Period. Most Additives and Mandated Filtering (Aviation fuels, by FAA REGs) are added to the delivered Fuels, as they are loaded in the Delivery Vehicles, at the Distributers Plant.
This minimizes the number of separate Storage Tanks, needed at the Distributers Facility, and Refinery to Distributer Transporting hassles.
