We have many tool's at our disposal. Some prevalent....some, not so much.

Which are under-rated or overlooked? To clarify...a tool does not necessarily have to be an object. I have ideas that I'll make known, but I'd like to provoke some discussion.

    Set....go!

sillcock key. For anyone in an urban or suburban area, a four way Silcock key. I'm in the woods now but I still have one handy because you never know where you might be if things go bad. It will open those commercial water outlets/spigots that don't have a handle.
I'm having some trouble posting a pic right now, you'll have to google it or something similar. And they're cheap, buy a few.
    Edit: got a pic up.

Well,I don't believe there's one magic tool out there,if I did I'd sure free up a lot of space.I thought about it for a minute and just being a diyer and learning as much technical, mechanical, and building trade knowledge will helpful for anyone now or in a shtf situation. Although you may not need to do everything yourself I think it can be helpful in repurposing and planning...

A small lock pick set and knowing how to use it. The picks and tension wrench are titanium (read non ferrous....think ....does not make things go BEEP).

The other 2 are handcuff keys.

Edit: Not keys but shims. Big difference. Sorry.

Set was given to me by some "spooky" friends. Also came with a class on how to use.

Ok...the ball is rolling now. @shamrock75, I wasn't looking for one single, magical tool. Sorry, maybe I could have worded the question better. Anyhow, your response is spot on, I believe. With a little knowledge and ingenuity, work-arounds for a multitude of problems are possible.

As for the others, the fact that pics are needed means items that are being mentioned are one's that are not often disused. Good points on all listed so far. I'll see if I can get some pictures of those at work today.

With the price and availability of ammo where it is right now, one thing discussed between friends and coworkers lately has been air rifles. Cheap, efficient, and quiet. Supper has been put on many a table with them, I believe.

Air riles are way underrated. I was told that the old USSR used to require that all students in high school learn to shoot and qualify on them. Very little cost, not much noise, no need for an expensive range, taught them gun safety, sight picture, being comfortable around guns and not being afraid of guns. Good first step if needed in preparing a person to quickly fit into a conscript army in time of war. At the same time the sheep did not have access to weapons and ammo that could be used to dispute the authority of the state. A win win situation and one that anyone in a SHTF might find useful. Where else can you spend a couple hundred and get a short range training rifle and a few thousand rounds of ammo that maintains OPSEC while in use?

image. On air rifles: i have a Gamo Stainless Steel Hunter 1000 FPS and its as loud as a 22 LR cuz the velocity is close to the same.

If you get an air gun, get a surpressed version.

Edit: wrong velocity. Grabbed if from the safe and confirmed.

This is all I need. It folds for back pocket carry, it has replaceable tubular bands for a couple bucks, which install with rubbing alcohol, and total cost is about $25-$35 bucks. Replacement bands cost maybe $5-$7.
