Ah yes,Spam. That marvelous mystery meet in a can. It feed our troops during WW2 along with England and Russia. During the war Hormel produced ,150 million pounds of Spam. It's a prepper staple. You gotta have something to put in those beans and rice!

Two of my uncles and a few other people I knew as a kid had been in the Pacific during WW2 and got most of their rations from the British and Australians. They said compared to canned mutton, mostly tough old fat meat, and bully beef, spam was a treat and the US combat rations were many times better. English rations as they described them, would keep you alive, but you did not look forward to canned meat, canned bread or cracker, tea and sugar, and not much else.

THIN deli sliced Spam (yes I have my own slicer) gives you a product that quickly crisps up like bacon quite nicely when fried

I keep a few cans around but it is on the only eat when totally desperate list. If there are not rabbits and quail in the hay field, deer and squirrels in the woods, possums, coons and muskrats in and around the stock ponds, pigs and chickens wandering around their pastures and a whole lot of wild foods to gather and the gardens. Then and only then would I consider opening one of those cans.... Well not exactly true the coons and possums seem to have a fetish for it, so I might use it to bait trap sets for them. Hey if you like the stuff more power to you but IMO there are far better options..... like mud soup :)
