Bulk propane

I drag my wall heater outside and blow it off with compressed air.

 

The bio gas pond we have at my work runs as close to atmospheric pressure as possible.

 

I got an old rusty propane tank.
I got it filled and had it sitting outside and it developed a pin hole leak in the bottom of the cylinder.

So I have a new procedure for old bottles that appear to be rusty.

From now on I'm going to run over the bottom of the tank with my needle descaler, pull a vaccum see if they will hold a vacuum over night then leak check them with 120 psi of air.

 

The count now after being down a 100lb cylinder is two 20lb, two 30lb, three 40lb and two 100lb.
Propane users are 2 of those radiant camping heaters and a 30,000btu wall heater.

 

I picked up a 250 gallon tank from the local agg auction for $100.
There was a 500 gallon one there but it looked kind of funny then upon closer inspection it turned out to be an anhydrous ammonia tank.
The difference, a propane has a working pressure of 250psi, an anhydrous tank, only 200psi.
I'm pretty sure that the propane guy isn't going to fill an anhydrous ammonia tank.

Oh my new tank was made in 1973, think I will have any problems filling it?

 

Ok all my 250 gallon tank needs is a new multi valve. They're about $100.
The last ape that had it broke off the gas valve.

I was at the agg auction again and got two 100lb tanks for $100 and as I suspected one was bad, a pin hole leak like the last one.
I'm averaging around $110 to $120 per useable 100lb tank.
I'm just not going to buy them unless the bottom has little to no rust or unless the tank or tanks have liquid in them.
Between the tanks not having valve covers, needing a valve, 2 out of 5 being bad I might as well pay about $150 and get a brand new tank.

The one with a pinhole leak on the bottom I cut open was rusting from the inside and outside.

 

For safety I have filled the tank in question with water ,then using air pressure on top of that.
You really do not want to use air pressure alone as it can be a bomb . because water cannot be compressed ;if there is a failure it is not catastrophic .
Having an air compressor shop we had customers attempting to make there own units and some time it doesn't work out so well.

 

Rust is the problem you just added , now how to remove all ho2 ?? tell me how you d that ??

Hydros are always just for the Tank, itself... Since the Valves can always be replaced....correct , Water is NOT used for a internal fill and clean ,, but hydros are not MT on checks .
2 checks on one test and cleans ..
