I've been into tech for many years now, I've played on and off with Linux, have to say I like it but always find that one thing that made me go back to Winblows. I've run through the various distros, each has there own issues, some work better out of box than others with my hardware set up. About 2 weeks ago I threw Ubuntu on the laptop 7.10 is the latest distro. For someone wanting to try out Linux this would be the one I would suggest. Just about everything worked right away, there is always an issues with DVD playback and MP3's but a few quick downloads and they are off and running. The nice thing is you don't have to worry about the same virus & spyware issues you have with Windows. Although you should always be careful with what you are looking at
