Help wanted with survivalist story

Couldn't you tell, I was describing myself?

Since it us fantasy, you can make up your own set of rules for the colonial planet. Does it support human, or whatever the stranded folks are, life? How inhospitable the planet might be? If you have fun with it, your readers will probably enjoy it more than something run of the mill. I'm probably not creative or imaginative to offer much more than that.

Maybe arm the survivors with Bear machetes and fire steels!
