If the storm moves inland slowly as a rain event we'll be hearing about rivers rising above flood stage up to a week after the storm has passed. This is something that took me a bit to accept, since my brain is adjusted to tide tables.

I just had an elderly lady in town tell me "everyone's leaving." (with elementary school recess noise in the background)

I told he "Good, that means I can park my car in the middle of the street."

School will be closed tomorrow... a move I initially thought was on par with a "might-snow day." It will give the teachers a chance to get the school buttoned up, and the kids a chance to leave town with their family without chalking up an absence.

I'm sitting on the sun deck watching the clouds.

Over a dozen colleges have already closed their doors, as well as numerous school systems.... I'm concerned the farmers who have swapped from crops to raising aluminum... that will be a mess:unsure:

I saw an interesting sight this evening. A pole truck staged no more than 3/4 mile from the beach with its support legs extended. At first glance I thought it was silly, but it couldn't hurt. I have a friend who's a fisherman, and all his work boats are pulled up on the hillside and tied to posts in the ground. If they float, his house will have already gone underwater, but he'll still have transportation and a way to make a living.

Wind anchor. Those are fairly light rigs with sides like sails.

    Tonight from Myrtle Beach:
The chaos really kicked into high gear as first the Governor announced a state of emergency then the County EMD set the mandatory evac for Tuesday at noon. I had to pre-position microwave gear around the beach this afternoon and the level of insanity stirred up by our Gov officials was nuts. Lines for gas out into the road, every food store lot full, and a sea of vehicles headed away from the coast. Stations are running out of fuel fast. This is the epitome of why we prep.

Went out tonight after work. The "floor show" at Walmart was no where as bad as I thought it would be, but it is still early, and a circus. 2 case per person limit on water, 0 5 gal gas cans, had a half dozen yesterday. I decided we could use a few more gas cans, hit Tractor supply less than a mile away, 2 dozen cans still on the shelves. DW decided we should hit the dollar store on the way home, plenty of everything they have. Dollar store had almost full water shelves.

We are a little over 200 miles from the coast in the Carolina's. We were not here for Hugo, I was still in S Fla at that time, but as we understand it, we are mostly in the direct path Hugo took.

Good luck and may all the monkeys stay safe.
