Just about the same here. Country living, not at its best but a heck of a lot better than city living

I'm a Kosher coward, lol and for me 12 hours is half of my limit! I had about 20 spare D batteries. How do you recharge batteries without electricity? I can breath fine as long as air is properly circulating and moving but medically all I can get any Medical Specialist to say is that I have Hay Fever and get congested! Gee thanks. AIr Conditioning at about 68 to 61 in the extreme, clears my nostrils at night. Thanks for your input.

    You got that right!
Not being surrounded by concrete giving off heat all night long is awesome! I lived in the city for a little over 2 years. Don't think I could do it again, too much hassle.

LOL you're right and you're probably right that people would shoot me instead of survive with me! At least I realize this!

Thanks for the info especially the underground part. I'm actually going to try this summer to see if there are any below the surface garages and see for myself. I just hope that these exist in LA because of all the building laws forbidding basements.

That's my biggest problem, the air not moving. How come you don't have AC if you don't mind me asking?

The longest journey starts with a single step, or in my case usually a stumble followed by a face plant. At least Ed is starting to look in the right direction - I wonder how many of his neighbors gave it a second thought? Not scolding because you are also quite correct.

Funny thing was it wasn't the hotness so much that bothered me it was what it was doing to my nasal passages, feeling congested and stuffy even with Claritin D!

Thanks. Can you give me the name and model of your icemaker? Is that something that wouldn't screw up an apartment? I'm impressed that this is nothing to you, really! I'm a Kosher Coward from New York City originally and I admit being somewhat spoiled as I'm more a delegator and ideas person than actual hands on helper. I'm actually pretty good in finding the right people and motivating them, perhaps because one needed that to survive New York City back in the 60's and 70's!

Wow. Where do you live? You must love it there! Funny enough I guess until I really experience it, the Cold has never bothered me because I could always put on layers of clothes even indoors! Do know that I quit the Boy Scouts at 12 when those idiots running our Troop had us go on an overnight hike in the middle of the Winter in the mountains and sleep inside our sleeping bags in an open Lentol! I owe my mother everything for insisting that I bring thermal underwear with me.

That is my idea of hell. I guess you love living there, so more power to you. My biggest sacrifice is not using my buildings pool because I am paranoid of catching germs from the white trash kids and adults who live here. I know chlorine is suppose to kill germs but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

That's the problem none of them but at least 2 of them have now asked me where they can buy a portable battery operated fan! But if I tell any of them to keep at least 3 months of non-perishable food on hand that they'll eat anyway, they'll look at me like I'm nuts!

Battery operated fan but I'm still paranoid of putting it by a bathtub!

Thanks everyone for their input which I find very helpful. Hopefully a major power output won't happen again this summer so I don't have to implement these things but if they do, I'm at least a little better prepared.

No, you are no better prepared now than you were last Friday. MAYBE you are slightly more knowledgeable, but no better prepared. You need to go back into some of those other threads you've started, or better yet, start reading some of the threads that were started long ago, and start doing as suggested instead of patting yourself on the back for sweating and sneezing for half a day.

Excellent post @3M-TA3, you are very correct and maybe this power failure will inspire more to start getting prepared. To brain storm a scenario is beneficial to many, not just the OP. He does read and to some 12 hours may not seem like much but in 110 degree weather in the city, it is quite nasty. Ed will gain from this experience and he will be prepared to survive another power outage and maybe next time no water.

@ED GEiN I live in an older town home that only has an attic fan. It sucks all the hot air out and draws cooler air in but if it is 100 degrees, there is no relief.
