I wonder why no one has ever used this flag instead of the Gadsen

  1. This is the Veterans Exempt flag of 1812. It was used by the veterans of the Revolution who were too old to go and fight the British again and instead were the Homeguard to let the young bucks go and defend this young country. The flag was flown in Plattsburg, New York and in upper Ohio. I don't know about you, but i think it's cool. Almost, dare I say it? Tactikewl. Thoughts? Opinions?

A pirate theme seems oddly appropriate for 1812 after all the Shanghai crap the British were doing.

Cool, but I like to think I could still Dance the Saber dance with the best of them, and while i'm older and less spry, I could still give a good accounting! So, its the more well known Gadsen for me, right alongside my Skull and Bones!

I gotta major "thing" for the old East India Trading Co. Some of the greatest crimes against humanity were carried out by them!

By definition any flag flown by US troops is cool. Each has a meaning that is a tribute to those who stood in harm's way. The Gadsen, for me is still the best as it goes back to our revolutionary roots and everybody recognizes it and understands it's meaning. It's also, unfortunately, timely.

I have never come across this in my readings. Thank you! It seems very...complicated for an 1812 era flag, 3X more stuff on it. It is sort of cool looking...

I'm from Alabama, and we have two flags the US Flag and the Confederate Flag... don't ask me to choose between them... you might not like the answer.

There is much about the Civil War including what led up to it and the unintended consequences that does not get taught in schools or shown in movies.

Prior to the Civil War we were a union of free states who worked together for the common good (defense, resolving interstate disputes, etc.) to states held captive to a Federal Government. So, while men as slaves were freed (there were nonviolent ways to accomplish this) once free states now became captive to the rule of the Federal Government.

Yea, if the Founding Fathers had known how things would turn out we would still be singing "God Save the Queen"!

I think the Founders knew very well how dark the hearts of men could be. They gave us all the tools needed to prevent what has happened. It's OUR fault we haven't shown proper stewardship and control of our government and nation. Two hundred years to get to this point and OUR apathy may be the final straw that sends a great republic over the abyss into history. It's not our Founders fault where we are. It's mine.
