I'm thinking it may be. I saw elk and coyotes (at least three) on my property today. This poop was all over in a certain area. Gah. Luckily I went over there to fix the front door of the cabin, so at least that secures shut now.

I guess I should probably just assume there are bears on the property anyway so I can be prepared and not get eaten by anything.

Is not deer, goat, cow, or even horse. That leaves bear, cougar, or maybe Big Foot. Have found bear tracks just out our back door--I never go outside unarmed--well, no where. The two legged critters are way more dangerous

I think it's from a bear. it wouldn't be so unnerving except it was all over the place, so something has either been living there or tromping through on a regular basis. What type of gun would you suggest as self protection? i have a feeling bear > 110 lb woman with no gun. Lol.

Did you really just ask if a bear craps in the woods?;)

The bear crapping in the woods is better than the elk who crapped all over my cabin.

Yes It's bear , So if you see this It means the bear has marked that spot or area (for a reason) . They will walk to mark a spot or territory to let other bears know plus. unlike you & I , we will go anywhere it's convenient. So save your "PEE" up and mark you area , don't do the poo, that's overboard. It's a gesture of living together and setting bounds . Bears are very similar to a dog in the way to setup your rules . Don't be aggressive until if you need to be, they don't like to be around you unless you have all the food & berry's at your place.
To mark your Area , use your / Boyfriend pee and pour it on a tree at 4 to five feet high , remember the tree's , do this for a while . The bear will assume you are larger because it needs to have head up to smell. Next is to monitor the trees , if you see the bark scratched off , You have a problem ..
I have lived in very remote places , Bears are a PITA if they get domestic , if they become territorial and damage your pee scented trees then it's time to remove the threat . Only have had to shoot one garbage yogi , spoke to many & said go , this is MY area !!!
I was packing all the time . I first use fire crackers . They hate those .
Come fruit time when it's ripe they eat over ripe fermented fruit & become dumb drunk . Plums are the worst.

This is what I have learn't seeing them .

Use a big 2 quart can , remove the top , use one firecracker at a time & light it , drop in can , point towards bear , and holding on to can , rather that setting the forest on fire.

Bear bangers come as hand launched or in this case, a 12ga. Shotgun.

Problem with bear poppers/ bangers is if they go beyond the bear , the bear is scared towards you , as I had happen to me once in the back mountain . I wasn't prepared for the newer type , Plus there costly over a few firecrackers I use around the house ..My bear ,cougar (burys it like a cat does) ,elk deer, coon, rabbit have been decreased since a dog & the rest of new comers moving closer to what was once back country rural in the 70's.

pee on firecrackers while wearing a tiny mans bear costume. Got it. Actually, if there are going to be bear bangers involved, someone else is going to wear the costume, lol.

Seriously though, this is some interesting info. The property hasn't been used for years, so it makes sense that if a bear had moved in during that time he would realize we had been visiting and start marking his territory.

Yes, but bear bangers are perfectly legal, where as fire crackers are not.

Can you handle and fire a 12 Gauge Pump shotgun, such as a Remington 870? If so it would be capable of deterring and or killing most bears with OO buck or slugs. A truly huge coastal brown or a polar bear might be a reach, but I think it would get the job done. Plus, a 12 ga pump is a very versatile firearm to have and use.
