Night walkers and Homeless

I posted this on that other forum and immediately it was pulled and moved to the off topic politics section. I find it hard to discuss all aspects of survival topics without including all aspects of survival topics. PC will get you killed faster than not having a few days of food and water stashed.

Oh yea one more thing, I found out the word "GRINGO" is banned.

"Just one more unknown to deal with if things go south. In more recent years, I have been more inclined to believe a large percentage of homeless people might be mentally unstable. Over the last 30 years so much has changed as I have walked my dogs in this neighborhood by the shop.

The suburb is informally sanctuary and hard left in a very red part of the country. Local city positions have gone all PC. My cop sister is seriously ready to retire since the replacement police chief is not cop friendly.

My little sis had ditched the graveyard street cop job and transferred to the daytime homeless division. Ready to retire but offered this position and a bump in pay if she stayed on for a few more years. Included in the package is a new company vehicle. A hybrid Chevy Tahoe 4X4.

There is one thing I noticed missing on the police vehicles. No more "To serve and Protect" She has first hand knowledge of how bad things are in the area. It is not yet anything like Denver, LA, San Francisco, DC, Austin, Chicago, Detroit and the other over run cities.

I could post a different encounter just about every night after returning from walking the dog when in town. Stray bullets flying around are but a small part I witness on a regular basis. Not an issue usually related to the homeless, but they seem to be in their own world.

In a state or country gone mad, they will be out in force. Learning to mingle with them may be a viable option if economic collapse, natural disaster, or civil unrest occurs. At least to get from point A to where you need to go.

After dark when out walking the dog, I usually pass some local resident and occasionally the homeless. While I dont have any concerns about the homeless, the others I keep a close eye on. With my trusty and loyal dog to protect me, I am less inclined to feel in danger.

Most of the locals I see immediately show fear around dogs. This is a bonus, so long as no firearms present themselves. The drug use is out of control. Normally I try to acknowledge them in passing. Not all of the people are friendly. Some of them are only there in spirit.

The space cadets are in a zip code on another planet. Either zombied out brainless or so high, they are singing to the stars. Mostly harmless. But not taking any chances. A small percentage of them are friendly enough. But wont engage any conversation first or much more than a response back from my greetings.

Tonight, I saw a repeat offender. He is either chemically influenced or burned out of any braincells. Pedaling a bicycle down the state highway, actually resembling a real avid rider. Even wearing a helmet. The oddity is yelling at the top of his lungs at nobody in particular. As in the whole time I saw him cruising by.

I had talked to him previously one late night. I heard him arguing with someone while I was way off from where he was set up for the evening. As I approached, asking who he had been yelling at. He said it was only him there, so probably arguing about something aloud. The one thing troubling me was there were two different voices back and forth.

Another night crawler had recently been evicted. Serious road construction was happening. They leveled the local wooded area lining the creek. His pallet based carboard hut had been destroyed in the process of the foliage removal. He moved away without leaving a forwarding address.

I had talked to him one night while he was digging in a dumpster. Nothing uncommon. I do it all the time. His bicycle was loaded down with trinkets. He pulled out a new looking Black and Decker 20 volt cordless drill. I made a comment about it. So he offered it to me for free.

The drill looked like it had never been used. Maybe someone bought it and well never used it. The NI-Cad battery was dead, but expected if sitting for years not being charged. The guy was much more interested in the womens garments he had found. Almost obsessing about them. Maybe the silky smooth material is what his interest was. I didnt ask. I dont think the sequined high heels were his size, so not understanding why he was so happy about finding them. They sure didnt match his outfit. Not even close."

I kept getting weeklong bans at another forum (also bought by a Canadian company) that censored my use of the endearing names "pelousy", "Joey skidmarks" and "obummer", among others. Here, being adults accustomed to apparently "rough language", I haven't had a problem. There is a time and place for watching one's language, but draconian censorship just doesn't sit well with me. o_O

We have a recent infestation of the 'unhoused' and 'chronic substance abusers' - these, I will now, simply call Mooks.

Saw a mook riding a bike, seat all the way down to the top of the seat post - I normally assume these are stolen. The mook had a frame (small, BMX?) over one shoulder and 6 wheels tied to the handlebars. (shrug) Nothing new in the 'hood.

Then, like 2 minutes later, another mook comes down the street - again on a bike with the seat down o the top post, rolling a eBike alongside. I guess the eBike would go for $4k or so. Both heading to their little hideaway in the woods.

    Welcome to Anchorage

    Quite the entrepeneurs, aren't they?
I've long heard of homeless camps in the small wooded areas behind our bigger stores. Gives them easy access for dumpster diving I guess.
The only time I actually saw anything like this was years ago before I retired. I worked in a 17 floor state office building uptown. One of the nearby parking lots was taken over by hundreds of "protestors" camping out there - mostly 2 & 3 man tents. They would walk each day to the Capitol building to march in front of it. I forget what issue got their frilly panties in a bunch, but this went on for a few weeks. I'd look down on them from the 17th floor (tall floor-to-ceiling windows) and study them. After a few days the city supplied the camp with porta-potties. Likely to keep them out of the office buildings to do the necessary, and keep them from going in the shrubbery. Sheesh. After a month only a few die-hards remained. Finally they were 'encouraged' to move on. I'm surprised the city was that accomodating with them.
A couple years later that particular parking lot was restyled with a circular pavement and plenty of grass. It became a permanent food-truck parking area. Convenient for us worker bees. Cheaper than our inhouse cafeteria. (y)

I hate to say it... but I blame Reagan starting the trend when he started shutting down mental institutions in CA when he was governor... I still think he was in cahoots with pharma...
