Prepping the Rural Way

Same here.
Made a plan before I bought.
Bought a long way from where I lived.
Walked the bare land to decide how I should build, did this in Rain, Storms and aftermath of floods in the area as all places flood to some extent and you need to be sure of you're ability to get in and out.
Made fence a one time fence, still in place.
Dropped a well to 400 feet for good water, defined here as Hard but a good flow.
Built well house.
Built another fire proof well house after drunken neighbor was evicted and decided to punish Bank
Instead he burnt out others to the tune of 20 homes and 100 acres.
Built fire resistant Garage.
Built Barn/Shop
Built home.
Time Line 22 years.
Moved to place.
Raised cattle/supported feed industry.
Some folks say. He's so lucky!
Luck seems to follow those with a plan.
Flood has now breached Levee.
In 5 years the lake bottom will be a 5 acre pasture. Not part of the plan but that's another matter. Go with the flow of the land.

 

ahahaaaaaa....yeah, I've heard the "you're so lucky" line too.....like you won some kind of lottery.

Amazing how the harder you work, the luckier you get.
