Every now and then I like to reread this to remind myself that lives are not always as they seem. Sometimes people are just private. Richard Cory By Edwin Arlington Robinson Whenever Richard Cory went down town, We people on the pavement looked at him: He was a gentleman from sole to crown, Clean favored, and imperially slim. And he was always quietly arrayed, And he was always human when he talked; But still he fluttered pulses when he said, "Good-morning," and he glittered when he walked. And he was rich—yes, richer than a king— And admirably schooled in every grace: In fine, we thought that he was everything To make us wish that we were in his place. So on we worked, and waited for the light, And went without the meat, and cursed the bread; And Richard Cory, one calm summer night, Went home and put a bullet through his head.
Dark. but, Who knows what evil lurks in the heart or mind of a man. It could have been worse, he might have decided to end the life of another, or many others.
How many of us really know another human being. Its a rare gift to know and be known. Richard Cory was what so many of us are, a body that walks through the crowds
I guess I don't see weakness in others. I think we all have an inherent strength within ourselves if we just chose to exercise it. At least that's my belief. Weakness is only a state of mind
Weakness is a state of mind. We see it in our self, as we see it in others if our eyes are wide open and we are being honest.
I believe in strength and chose to see that in myself and in others. Strength doesn't mean without feeling and emotion but rather knowledge that we can and do endure even that which is difficult much like bravery being willingness to go forward in spite of fear. Strength is what allows us to confront life rather than simply letting life steamroll over us. Its knowing that we are only victims if we see ourselves as victims. I refuse to be a victim, I refuse to succumb to weakness, I refuse to allow anyone to do for me what I can quite ably do for myself. And I never forget "Whatsoever you shall ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it shall be done unto you." those few words have given me strength when I felt powerless.
