During this past weekend, my wife finally got her shingles vaccination. It was pricey: $219.99 at Walgreen's. If you have ever had Chicken Pox, or if you have the kind of herpes that causes cold sores, you can get Shingles. For those who may not know, many doctors suggest that people who are 60 years old or older, get the Shingles vaccination; it is good for life once you get it. The herpes virus that causes Shingles does not "go away" after you have had Chicken Pox or an outbreak of cold sores. Between attacks it lays dormant in your bones (?bone marrow?) until you have a health event that weakens/stresses you to the point that Shingles breaks out. This can be a debilitating event. The pain is intense and the recovery process can be months long. If the SHTF, you will not be getting that vaccination and you'll have plenty of time to regret not getting that taken care of. The other issue I wanted to remind folks about is to please consider getting a Pneumonia vaccination. those shots are good for 5 years. Please take care of yourselves!
