I watched in horror as Yuguslavia tore it's self apart in a matter of hours once the "Cleansing" started. Folks rounded up anyone and everyone they didn't like and executed them right there on the spot. The city leaders and tough guys were first, followed by the rapes, then the shooting started, and all hell broke loose. A couple hours into things, the artillery started, at first it was a few rockets and mortors, then the heavy shelling, up to 155mm High Explosives, within 12 hours of it kicking off, the whole city was ash and rubble!
Then the suffering started, no food, no water, no power, no NOTHING! People were cold and hungry already, and now that they had survived the initial violence, things got everything worse. A loaf of bread was a death sentence for anyone caught with anything, weapons were employed by those that had them, and then it was street by street folks killing each other to take what they thought they might need, guns were an especially hot commodity for those without, gangs formed and they went after the father protecting his family, they might get one or two killed, but eventually they would take that AK or SKS or BRNO, and then you had an armed gang that could now range at will. Rival gangs soon divided up the city and controlled who was allowed and who wasn't.
Cars were used to range outside the city, food, girls, drugs, pretty much anything they could take, they did, often by force! Folks needed to be mobile, and they needed to get as far outside the city as they could!
It was azing at just how fast it all turned to shit, within 24 hours, it all came apart at the seams, and I only the gangs, pumps, dealers, and thugs survived!

Took 8 days for "Peace keepers" to show up, you know, those assholes with the blue helmets, yea, those fuckers, and it took less then an hour for them to flex and become the biggest gang in the city! Nothing changes except who ruled, tanks became road blocks/checkpoints, but the city gangs and drivers were free to come and go as they pleased, often bringing a pickup overfilled with young girls, and enough drugs to kill a battalion!
We were sent to Sarijavo international airport to set up and began operations, until the U.N. fucksticks showed up and told us to get out of the country, and Because Gen Colin Powell was a Demo Cuck, we had to follow orders and leave, but not all of us!
We deployed special operations ground teams, mostly attached to Army S.F. and we spread out, usually in plane clothes, and gathered all the Intel we could! I got to see first hand what a civil war looked, smells, and tastes like, those things stick to you and never leave, I still wake at night smelling those smells, it's horrid, and I still see the bloated bodies bulldozed off the streets up against the curbs or into the ditches, and I can still hear the wail of widows, mothers, daughters, grandmother's, as they try to collect the body of their man folk, and try to bury them somewhere away from the city! About the only good thing one of the U.N peacekeepers ever did was shoot a thug who was trying to extort a widow as she and her two very young sons were dragging a man's body in a small cart, he tried to collect a tribute from them to let them take the body, they had nothing, and one U.N. solder walked up and shot the thug in the back of his head, then told the widow and boys to leave and not ever come back! And we all stood there with empty weapons, leather jackets, and black Doc Martins, and smoked cigarettes, unable to do anything at all, and under orders not to interfere! So we did, and this went on for nearly three years before we were ordered out completely!

Right now I'm F'd! I''m from NYC originally and I never learned to drive. Even in LA I can manage without a car. I do have an Electric bike! Friends & Family live nearby with vehicles. Trouble is they don't want to know about this stuff!

Honestly unless I can get a group together I admit I'm screwed. The problem with trying to get people to form a group is none of these people want to know. The gung ho people are too extreme. Damn if you do and damnif you don't. All I can do right now and all I've been doing is gathering information to help me make the best decisions if everything goes to pot- no law and order, etc.

Well, you might want to join a gang and become their quartermaster. And I'm only partially kidding.
If you got stuff and they want stuff but you don't want to give them stuff you won't be able to keep the stuff nor your health.

All very good points. Totally agree with you about "the group"- my problems is no one in LA except theliteral Lunatic Fringe wants to knowand I don't want to get involved with people who are mentally ill and out of control.I actually tried to run some ads forming a group and no one in LA that can read is interesred!

Totally agree with you. I've got enough food to last me 2 years but protecting its the problem that I have no answer for. I mean I do have an answer, form a group or have an isolated area to live but no one sane here other than me wants to prepare and I don't have the money for an isolated hideaway.

Your group will not be in LA or anywhere near it. You are going to want to hook up with folks more rural/remote. Let LA/Inland empire kill and eat each other for a while before you even scout it out. Start taking drives, noting probable choke points, and see what you find. It won't be a couple of hours away, it will be more. It could be in Nevada, and I'm not talking any path between LA and LV. The travel would be a nightmare and LV will be every bit as bad as LA. Think rural, maybe desert if it has the right combo of resources. NorCal could be viable IF you can get there. Maybe slip into Nevada through the desert and head north, finally switching back to California on 395 through Susanville. Maybe some CA monkeys have some ideas.

Lots of Federal land in CA and NV. If I had to I'd start with a tent and a water source until I found something better.

won't be any need for a judge's court order >>> I always point out the obvious fact that your local GOV officials aren't preppers - neither are the lesser GOV employees - powerbrokers - biz owners - civic leaders - even the clergy >> ONE LARGE CLUCK OF LOCAL POWER & AUTHORITY - UNPREPARED

think they'll be sitting back watching their family starve without wielding that hammer - against Common Joe citizen? - it might not be a matter of having poor to terrible OPSEC to get confiscation raided - the EMERGENCY ACT most likely will allow door-to-door confiscation "deputies" - won't only be food - you can bet on arms & ammo - fuel - blankets - camping gear - even your clothing ....

Lots of great posts. We missed a bullet in the last election with the outcome at least giving us some breathing room. The swamp is large and willing to wait. The next election and all that follow are going to determine our future as a nation. While an isolated community can give you some protection, think USSR or NAZI Germany. None escaped and Stalin in the Ukraine took the food from the prepared and they died of starvation in the millions. Wish I had a simple answer but I don't. We have lost control of some areas to the gangs and political left in some areas already. They use the law, violence, and propaganda to control their areas now. I don't see it getting better and Trump is fighting a delaying action. I don't know if he can lay a foundation for change or not.

Haven't had a TV for years, don't read the newspapers any more. Ignore my leftest neighbors and survive as best as I can with our controlling leftest government. I am part of the problem. Although I know better I am a keyboard warrior and although I vote and try to influence things, I am part of the group in our community that is losing. "They" control the churches for the most parts, one local one flies the rainbow flag and has a woman preacher who is a lesbian, control the local government for the most part and use the permitting offices to control the people, control the schools and there is no local media. This is in Live Free or Die New Hampshire. It has become in fact part of Mass and all that insures. Still have our weapons but they are working on that. Started with the welfare in the cities and then spread to the newcomers and their buying of "cheap" houses to live in. Twice what they used to cost, but one third of the cost on Boston area. We are being changed the same as Colorado and New Mexico. An unholy alliance of leftest middle class in the suburbs and gimme dats in the city are taking control of the state. They control the major population centers, Nashua, Concord, Manchester, and the politics that run them now control the state. It is close, but we have lost the control of much of the state and they are educating next generation into a nation of sheep. Still have some home schoolers and some good churches but they are becoming every more a minority and losing their impact on the local areas. The voting districts are transferring the power to the urban areas. Spanish has became the second language and went from being a small group to controlling some urban areas. There are active groups in the state trying to minimize the old culture and promote diversity and they are well funded and control the media. A Brief Review of New Hampshire’s Race and Ethnicity Demographics — New Hampshire Center for Justice & Equity. Notice it is equity and not equality..The agenda is stated in the very title of the organization. https://newhampshirebulletin.com/20...t-to-tackle-racial-justice-and-equity-issues/ The government and the usual leftest organizations have well funded this organization and the media are backing it 100 %

Guess I am stating that if you want an active and effective contra force to the new changes, you have to look to somewhere else than southern New Hampshire. We are fighting a delaying action but are losing in the long run.

Again Good ideas and will try to follow up on it. The biggest problem is trying to get out of the City if everything happens virtually overnight.

Unfortunatly, I couldn't make it with a tent. I quit the Boy Scouts at 12 cause those idiots had us go on an overnight hike in NY in the mountans in freezing weather in November sleeping in a Leantool (spelling)- an open large shack with a completely exposed open side. That was enough for me! Even at 12 I had common sense though not enough common sense trusing the idiots adults in charge!

How long are you planning on "bugging in" in your apartment?

And is this assuming basic civilisation (water, electricity, sanitation, supermarkets, maybe martial law),
or no civilisation, such as 3rd world anarchy caused by man or natural disaster?

Without (safe) running water and without outside help (i.e. by charities, government agencies or the military),
I doubt that you will last more than a few days in your apartment building,
whether there is combat or people trying to rob you or not!

Assuming that you get along and can work with your immediate neighbours.
How much water can you possibly store in your place?
Also you will need to wash things and relieve yourself (outside?)

If the situation is not quite so dire,
such as a high-crime situation or insurgency but with food, water and electricity, and you want to stay in an apartment,
then I agree that you will need a group to help you.
(Surviving by yourself is possible of course but requires a lot of luck and skill and very little sleep.)
You need at least one other person and probably more, working in shifts, guarding your floor & other floors if there are any.
Someone you trust, like friends, family, neighbours that you are on good terms with.
This can be like a miniature neighbourhood watch, not a prepper group,
but requires a basic level of civic virtue in your immediate population.
Don't hire random people to be part of your group!
Also I would not join some random group. You never know what you are getting into.

Cities are the worst place to be in any incident.
Having somewhere else (especially rural) to go to, and multiple ways to get there, is best.

You said that you have nowhere to go?
So I guess that you have to plan as much as possible for where you are currently?
You will be limited in what types of situations you can survive in your apartment building.

    *****

I am also often in urban Los Angeles, for a few months of the year.
I have a group of around 34 people not including my household that I care about,
a family of sorts, that prepare for all situations, that I know well for many years and trust fully.
I set up the group originally, but it has its own leaders.
Similar situation for me in Cape Town South Africa, but with a much smaller group, around 8.

We have multiple places to go and multiple ways to get there, sometimes with staging areas.
In severe situations, we do not expect to last long in the city.
If city water is shut off entirely (came close to happening once in Cape Town),
our plan is to leave immediately.

If it happens overnight and you don't have a car or hadn't left prior to a collapse of the city government or municipal services. Well buddy, the cosmos has been sending you a signal via just about everything you heard here about not staying there and beating feet and relocating from ground zero.
I don't believe that anyone here actually thinks they could flourish in LA after the collapse. Ya got bangers, druggies, homeless and folks trapped in the county to keep their county medical coverage .. and you.
We could tell you how to reinforce your apartment, secure your 2 years of supplies, build an armory and early warning systems and such. But in the end. someone cuts off the water to the building, chucks in a couple of 5 gallon jugs of gas and a road flare in the apartment below you and you are off to meet jezuz.
We can't save you. Only you can.
Move to where the trouble isn't.
