I've been reading that in cases of emergency phone networks are all busy and or down, Internet is usually down and during hurricane Katrina it was reported that the only reliable way to transfer information and or messages was via text?

I would like to know if anyone has any information on HAM, CB, long range short range, linear amplified... What would be good to have?

    I'd like to help

What do you see as the primary need for the radio?

What kind of budget do you have?

Are you willing to take the time and study for a Amateur Service license? (NO code at tall these days BTW)

Does it need to be portable? Just mobile? (vehicle installed)

Once you better define your envelope, we can chip in with some ideas.

There are some -do it all rigs - and the price matches...

Marco... There is a whole FORUM here on the Monkey site for Communications.... Most of the information you seek is there in one form of another. Do a bit of reading over there and then ask, your questions there. We have lots of Monkeys with year of experience in Comms, that can answer any questions you may have. ......
