I've got a "Wheel of Death " at the farm that I arm before I leave deer camp. I'll get half a dozen mice in it before I come back in early March. It would be spitting into the wind if I had a rat problem. The only reason why I do it is to make the poison go farther. I go through massive amounts of DCon and TomCat at my place. If the SHTF, I'm talking serious industrial rodent control. I work for a warehousing company. We're talking steel bait stations and wind-up traps every so-many feet on all exterior walls with regular inspection schedules.

I use a lot of DCon and Tomcat in the garage also.

I had chipmunks also; they stole the small electronics screwdrivers and paper towels. One of the dogs found their nest so evicting them was fairly easy...
Yes, I watched so the dog didn't mess with the DCon.

Yep. Probably a good ratter is going to be an important SHTF requirement for a lot of people.

Also, install a few bat houses, to keep down the mosquitos.

At the farm, I've got bats, and I've also tried purple martin houses with mixed results.

You want both, because bats work all night and purple martins work during the day.

However, I stopped putting up the martin house a couple of years ago, because I was only there on weekends. You need to be around all the time. Purple Martins need attention about once per week-- cleaning the house, etc. They really dig human intervention.

BTW: Once the Purple Martins stopped coming, the barn swallows filled in the gap. I'm back to 24 hour bug protection. The farm house is almost completely skeeter free.

There was a you tube a while back guys were using five gallon buckets with water and a wire suspending a roller(empty can) across, then above the can, some bait.
From the videos they seem quite effective.
