Putting a call out to all monkeys-

Looking for suggestions for Topic of the Month:

Usually the clubhouse is polled but I decided to open this month to all members. I am looking for suggests, a list of topics and ideas to work with over the next few months. Maybe you can see a hole in our forum that should be covered. This month is National Preparedness month and I was looking at their calendar of topics (see below) but to me some seem redundant.

All suggestions will be appreciated and added to the list. I appreciate any ideas and I also want to say thank you for all the contributions to TOTM over the past years.

First Aid topics. In general, anything from CPR to suturing, control of diarrhea via medicine and/or foods/herbs, how to determine and treat for shock, homebrew antibiotics, splints (lots of new types on the market), how treat/bandage wounds (again, lots of new stuff on the market - QuikClot, Israel bandages, tactical tourniquets...) what's necessary for a first aid kit and where to purchase the items....anything and everything about first aid and/or follow-on treatment.

Yeah, agreed winter related topics would be most useful.

Also don't use the powdered quickclot.

Yes, especially since winter is almost on us! I heard about not using the powder QuickClot...but can't remember why now. You might want to put that out since rather important people know this. I use the QuickClot sponges...

Problem with the quick clot powder is we had people being shot or some how seriously injured over in the early days of Iraq and Afghanistan, the quick clot powder was used and likely did save the persons life but a few days or weeks later when the person was healing a chunk of clot powder would break off and end up in the persons heart, lungs or brain.
A few other people were trying to use the quick clot powder when the wind took it and blew it into their eyes. Problem is that shit really burns, now you have people in a fire fight and now they cant see anything.
So if any one has the powder maybe think about replacing it with the gauze.

Anything related to hand to hand combat or martial arts is always interesting to me. Eventually the bullets run out. It's possible that I might even know a little bit on the subject. Maybe. [afro]

Well, looks like we can remove hand-to-hand combat from your list of possible topics. Don't know about the rest of ya'll, but I learned all I'll ever need to know from the West Virginia ninja.

Something I haven't seen anywhere is how to repair clothes.....basic sewing. From fixing a rip to sewing on a button and everything in between.

Sewing is @Brokor 's specialty he says it's not gender specific.[touchdown][reddevil]

I think @Motomom34 was looking for a whole host of topics. And if you sweet talk her sewing could be one of them [hrt]

Some simple, "how-to" videos and/or forum posts may be needed to spice up the topic, though.
Sewing buttons and seams are simple by hand, enough so that all we need is an overview of the major points and the rest can be figured out. I could work on a tutorial in the future, perhaps.
